    3. Researching the following family names: TYLER/MORRIS/TIDWELL My grandmother, Queenie Morris, died on September 12, 1945 after a fall from a window of a hotel located at 205 N. 24 Street in Birmingham. Was that the Hillman Hotel? She passed away at the Hillman Hospital, was buried at Mt Hope Cemetery, Brown-Service was the funeral home. Would anyone have access to any news stories that may have appeared at that time in any local newspapers? Or maybe even an obit? By the way, I enjoy all the stories the subscribers to this list have shared. I never had the opportunity to know my ancestors from your area and any recollections you may have help fill that void. Thank you in advance.

    3. I am completely enjoying the stories on this topic, please continue to tell us about old Bessemer and B'Ham. My family is from there since 1830 and I live so far away, your stories help me get a feel for what thier lives may have been like. Dont be discouraged by one person, there are a LOT of us out here that need your memories to fill in the gaps our ancestors lives. Thank you all for shareing! 3. As a native Floridian who's grandmother was born and raised in B'ham from 1900 till we went and brought her here to help care for her in the 1980's, I have throughly enjoyed ALL the e-mail's, UNTIL this one came thru. Hopefully his solution worked. We only went out once or twice a year and I loved it each time. I would ask to sleep out on the glider on the 2nd floor screened in porch so I could see the light of the Vulcan. One of her brother's, Carey Gore was an artist who painted the movie posters at the Capital Theater. Does anyony remember it, and could you tell me about where it was located? Thanks, Kay Music --- James Roberts <[email protected]> wrote: > I have sent 3 emails to > [email protected] trying to > unsubscribe, but still continue to get mail from > this list. 2. Carl, I don't know whether or not it still functions as it once did - doubt it seriously - but it was still functioning in the late 1960's. I well remember the Junior/Senior Prom from my high school in 1966 being there. Of course, like much of Birmingham, the neighborhood has been in a population transition for a number of years. I know approximately where it was and pass by the area on my way to and from work everyday on the interstate, but I haven't been in the area in 20 years or more. By the way, I do remember seeing the article about Cascade Plunge in the paper this summer but I don't remember what it said about it. Thanks, Hal

Cascade Plunge was a nice and very large swimming pool, operated by private owners but open to the public for an admission fee. VERY popular with younger folks on summer Saturdays. Facilities available for picnics, etc. The location was east of the downtown Birmingham business section.... on a corner about 2 or 3 blocks south of the east-west First Avenue corridor. It was a stop on the trolley route from down town out to the old Howard College campus in East Lake. Howard College has become Samford University and now is in a far larger campus "over Red Mountain" on the south side of Birmingham. Until WW II, that type of public swimming facility was popular and there were a number of them around ... some privately owned and operated .... some operated by the city or county.
