Kelly, I hope I'm not intruding, but I was wondering if you could look up a marriage for me? My great grandfather, William Gilbert (middle initial may have been "H") married a second time in Tallapoosa Co., AL (or at least, I think it was Tallapoosa) to a woman with the surname of "Holt". Her given name might have been Catherine. I think this marriage took place in about 1852-1855. He had lost his first wife (my great grandmother), Drucilla Canady Gilbert in 1851. Thanks for any help. Thanks for this information, Mr. Erwin. I am wondering if this James Cunningham had a daughter by the name of Ann or Anna? Anybody know the answer to that question? I do not know which Cunnunghams these are. However, It was James Cunningham, if I recall given name correctly, who settled during territorial days (thus making descendants eligible as a First Family of Alabama - Alabama Genealogical Society- see website) on what became Cunningham's Creek that crosses Pinson Valley to the west of Pinson. It was on his premises before statehood that a Methodist church was founded as or became Smith's Chapel Methodist later moved to the Huntsville Road (now HWY. 79) that lasted until about 1900 and for which some minutes survive for 1842-1850s. I had relatives in it. This church & Mr. Cunnningham are noted in Anson West's history of Methodism in Alabama. There is always Amazon.com that can include out-of-print books. This one may still be in print. Abebooks.com is a huge array of booksellers here and in the U.K. Mounds of out-of-print and some in-print. I often get things at very low prices. Used books can be in very good condition. I have not looked, but the University of Alabama Press probably has a website, asked for thusly. Ask Google for Historic Alabama Map - can then ask by date periods, whole state, and by counties. The 1837 LaTourrette map is priceless, large, great detail, even some residences and factories. The residence of one g-g-g-g-grandfather is on the map. Hamlets show at various times and disappear, rtc. Enjoy! I found the 1880 census of my cousin Katie RANDALL Roberts & discovered that her daughter was from this marriage not the marriage to James 'Jim' C. Smiley. Therefore Corine/Coreen was Corine/Coreen ROBERTS who married a George W. Gragan. Given the mistakes in my cousins information I was curious as to if anyone knows the various spellings of Gragan for I am beginning to think this was not how George spelled his last name since I cannot find one George W. Gragan living in Birmingham or Jefferson County? Thank You, Lena --------------------------------- Be a better Globetrotter. Get better travel answers from someone who knows. Yahoo!
