    3. I am searching for information on William H. Hill, son of Ellis G. Hill and Elizabeth Thompson, b. ca 1856 on western edge of Bridgeport, Jackson cty, Al.. Grandson of Thomas Allen Hill and Nancy ? who arrived from Tn about 1827 and remained thru 1830-1880 census. Ellis was their first born. William(Billy), my grandfather, appears in 1860,1870 Jackson cty censuses but then disapears until 1898 when he changed his name to Thomas William Hill and married Carrie Adkinson, Kuttawa, Ky in Metropolis, Il. Kuttawa and Metropolis are both located on connecting Tennessee, Ohio rivers. After their first born they moved to Corrigan, Polk cty. Tx where he worked with lumber mills. Died there in 1919 flu epedemic. Rumor has it that Billy had a hotel in Mobile but lost it in poker game. May have lived there with a wife and children. Not found in 1880 Mobile cty. census. His marriage application in 1898 shows "traveling salesman" with his home as Victoria, Marion cty. Tn, which is located about 40 miles norh of Bridgport. At that time he had two brothers and a sister living in or near Victoria. His mother, Elizabeth, died in 1879, His father remarried and reportedly died and was buried in Victoria in 1898, the year Billy (re)married. I have a strange written story about Billy and his youngest brother Calvin Dean (b.1873) who lived in Bridgeport until 1890 when he moved toVictoria, Tn. The tale spans many years. It must be aprocryphal because it contains serious factually conflicting data on ages and dates. The tale describes a visit Billy made to the local store in Victoria to buy some oil for the lamps. He stayed longer than he had been told and on his return home his father beat him and he ran away and stayed away for many years.. His mother(who died in 1879) grieved until she died with a broken heart. Th source of this written tale is unknown.
