    1. [ALJACK] US Immig. and passenger list info from Lib. of Congress
    2. Hi all, I have a reference document from the Library of Congress entitled, "Immigrant Arrivals, guide to published sources" compiled by Virginia Steele Wood. This guide ONLY pertains to people who immigrated TO the UNITED STATES of AMERICA. SOME of the topics included in this relatively long reference are: Discusses ship passenger lists, dates of laws passed in regard to this and their purpose; Discusses the National Archives and it's holdings; Indentured Servitude and how it related to US immigration; A listing of MANY, MANY reference books with summaries of their contents. Discusses the role Canada played in US immigration. And others..... This document is an EXCELLENT resource guide for genealogy! The information applies to/ and the book listings cover a wide range of nationalities (German, Irish, Czeh, English, etc...) I offered to forward this reference guide to anyone interested on a couple of the other email lists I am subscribed to. Because of the AVALANCHE of requests I received it led me to think that I should extend the invitation to all of you as well. Between yesterday and today I handled over 200 requests for this guide. I just feel it is great information and want to make it available to everyone. I, of course, am willing to do the work of forwarding it at no cost to any of you, (except the time it will take you to read it :-). If any of you would like me to forward this document, please email me OFF LIST. Your comments are welcome, but I regret that due to the volume of this task, I won't be able to reply to any of your questions about it. You will simply have to read it for yourself. For some people I have already forwarded it to, it showed up in the body of the email. For others an attachment was involved. In regard to the attachment, you need not be concerned about any virus spread as I have scanned this document using the latest DAT files. This document is CLEAN. Feel free to pass this guide on to anyone you think might be interested in it without worry. Depending on how many requests I receive it may take me a day or two to fulfill. Please be patient. I think that about covers everything. Happy reading, and let the requests begin! :-) Joanne
