Davis, Dawson, Erwin, Johns, Proctor, Shankle, Wooten William DAVIS, Revolutionary War Soldier b abt 1752 VA brought his family into the Maynard's Cove area about 1815 before Jackson Co. was a county and before Alabama was a state. He was married to Mary Ann BLACK. Jeremiah PROCTOR b 1777 VA married Jane DAVIS, daughter of William and Mary Ann Black DAVIS, above. They married in KY, lived in TN and later arrived in the Maynard's Cove area to live near Jane's parents. John SHANKLE b 1815 TN married Clarissa PROCTOR, daughter of Jeremiah and Jane Davis PROCTOR, above. John, a Baptist preacher and farmer was in Jackson Co., AL at least by the time of the Cherokee Indian Removal - 1837. Jesse G. SHANKLE, son of John and Clarissa Proctor SHANKLE married Ellen WOOTEN. They lived in Jackson and in Dekalb Cos., AL. Ellen WOOTEN's parents, William J. WOOTEN b 1801and Susannah [last name probably GRANT] were b SC, lived in GA and were in Dekalb Co., AL by 1860 census. In about 1880 the Isaac Larkin DAWSON family moved to Jackson Co., AL near where New Canaan Church now is. Isaac Larkin had married Sarah S. ERWIN in GA . Their daughter, Josephine DAWSON married Lemuel SHANKLE, son of Jesse G. and Ellen Wooten SHANKLE. Lemuel had a Dry Goods store in Section. Francis Marion JOHNS b 1851 TN moved to Section, Jackson Co., AL about 1883. His Son Charles JOHNS m Olive SHANKLE, daughter of Lemuel and Josephine Dawson SHANKLE. Pat Grogan PATG31@aol.com
