Sorry that email was meant for the listowner--I can never get it right that is why I choose reply to sender!! Sherry WA
Reply to sender mode would be wonderful and that is my vote. ha Thanks for taking the list Kim, Sherr7

But I know many of us have roots in Arkansas also and might want to write in support of this. This is written to our AFHA list by one of the founders so I know it is correct information. Kathy We all know the state of Arkansas is rich in history. We, Arkansans, have many treasures of our past all safely housed at the Arkansas History Commission and State Archives. These treasures, unique not only to Arkansas but to the entire Southeast United States are now in danger. The archives are under threat by those who are elected to protect them. The State Building Services has plans to move the Computer Services department into the area that currently houses the Arkansas collection. The precious materials now housed in climate controlled areas would in essence be moved to an unprotected space. Some of these records date well before the Arkansas Territory was established in 1818. No monetary amount can be placed on such documents, as the original Arkansas Constitution. Of all departments under state control, I believe strongly that you will find AHC to be one of best-run departments. I had the honor of working as a volunteer at the History Commission for several years. If anything, more room and monies should be allotted to allow more access to these records. The director of the archives, Dr. John Ferguson, has been in place since the early 1960's and he is solely responsible for gathering of this magnificent collection. Moreover, he holds tight to the purse strings! AHC provides an unusual service to the state. Not only does it house a bit of our past, but also it draws visitors to the state. I am a former board member of the Arkansas Genealogical Society and the founding member of the Arkansas Family History Association. I have been active on the web for over 5 years and know of the growing interest that genealogy or history has on the American people. I encourage thousands of researchers to come to Arkansas each year specifically to visit the Arkansas History Commission and State Archives. AFHA has a mailing list of over 2000 researchers who are actively investing their time searching out keys to our state's history. These people are retirees who are voters in this state or tourists who come to research but leave behind their tourism dollars. I urge you to contact your lawmakers and urge them to reconsider this position. Arkansas History is all of ours to protect. This decision lies in the hands of the State Building Services. Take a moment, right now, and pick up the telephone to voice your displeasure. The number is 501-628-5598! You may also want to call the governor's office at 501-682-2345. Hello List Just been into the Roots Adoptable Mailing Lists at 9:06 pm Central Standard Time, and it says (need a new ADMINISTRATOR.) for ALJACKSO. It is one of the 7 Alabama Counties needing to be Adopted. Just thought I would share this. There maybe a brave soul on the List who would want to be the New Administrator. This is the URL for the site http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/adoptable/AL.html JoAnn McBride
Sherry, I think I'm being stupid. Mr. LAWSON is already deceased by 1900. The name I need is CREASMAN. I'm not sure but I think His initials are F.M. I hope you haven't gone to the trouble to check this out yet. They lived in Long Island, Carpenter, Bridgeport & Paint Rock. If this is to much trouble I do understand Thank you again Judy Wilson Conrad -----Original Message----- From: Judy Conrad-Wilson [mailto:jude@wilsonroots.com] Sent: Sunday, May 07, 2000 1:36 AM To: ALJACKSO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [ALJACK] 1900 and 1910 Jackson County Census Sherry, Could you look up Mattie Lawson in Long Island in the 1900 Census? Judy not a problem I am still working on the census. I am sending this to the list so everyone that requested a lookup will know I am working on it. The 1900 is listed by precincts and many times doesn't have a township listed and I don't know anything about the precincts. So I am going through the 1900 line by line. So I am still working just slow. Thanks everyone for being patient with me. Sherry

Sherry >> Hi Sherry, I know Nancy Bullard was still at home with father, John Bullard, in Jackson in 1860. I do not know when he died but he was born in 1806. Nancy married Ab Keith 4 July 1869 in Jackson County - I have gotten that form from the probate office. I don't know when Ab and Nancy moved to JEfferson County either. I would be interested in Bullard information from 1870 and any other Bullard or Keith information anyone comes across. Thanks Doris Mayer Reece Branchville Alabama

Hi I am searching for information about the family of Curtis McCollum and Barnabas McCollum. Curtis and Barnabas were brothers who married sisters Mary and Cynthia Arnold. Barnabas lived in Giles Cty Tenn and Curtis in Jackson Cty Alabama. I would like to learn who Barnabas and Curtis's family was. I have been told that they were born in North Carolina. Any clues would be greatly appreciated. Joanne Bledsoe westernproperty@mindspring.com
In Jackson Co. Alabama, Jessee MagBee/McBee lived with his wife, Lucinda. Nearly all of his children seemed to have been born in Jackson Co. AL (between 1840 and 1856). The second child, Dicie Cordelia McBee married my GGGF in abut 1859 and the McBee clan is in Johnson Co. AR in the 1860 census. William McBee died in Jackson Co. AL in 1839 and it is suspected that he was the father of Jessee. I'm interested in contacting anyone with links to this McBee family or any other McBee family that lived in Jackson Co. I have information on several of these lines but need more to piece some things together. Such as the James McBee that lived with this family in AR but was not a son, who was his father?
