Hi! Thought the list might be interested in a site I was just on: www.ancientfaces.com There are over 1400 photos and 1800 people ( by name search) pretty interesting! Pam researching: Benning, Winne, Millard
I have a conflict between two names for the maiden name of Charity Emmalene Hamman. She was born abt 1829 in the TN area close to the AL border OR in the Cherokee portion of AL (DeKalb, Cherokee, St. Clair etc..). She registered for recognition of her Cherokee citizenship in the Dawes applications of 1896 so that area is probable. She married into a family of German extraction in 1855 (location unknown), her husband was John Van Hamman, the son of William Cook Hamman both of which lived in DeKalb Co and Jackson Co. AL before 1850. A family Bible exists in Texas that lists her maiden name as McCandles but most Hamman/Hammon researchers have her name listed as Browder. I'd like to find out why and be certain of the truth. Ron McCandless

Bertha Do you know of any connection between Clement C. Clay (Sr) of Huntsville and our John Clay? Clement owned land in Jackson Co. as well as Madison Co. AL. I notice Russell Wm Clay named a son (b. 1849), Clement C. Clay. Thanks for the additional information. It helps greatly. Barb
I went to a genealogy seminar this weekend and heard one of those things that was so obvious I could have choked. In posting personal genealogical websites, remember, what info does the bank require for you to access all your accounts? ..your birthdate and your mothers maiden name...duh and yikes. In my zeal, everything is available to anyone. So use a different password. From the collective groans that surfaced, I wasn't the only one who hadn't considered that. Please know, this isn't an invitation for five hundred comments thus taking up too much email space, just passing on some too obvious information.

Hi ALL, I have not posted in a while and I very much need your help. But first please let me apologize to any of you who may be on more than one of the lists I'm sending this to as you unfortunately will receive more than one copy of this message. I am looking for the parents of Elijah WADE. Here is what I know about Elijah: Elijah WADE b. abt. 1804 SC. Elijah WADE m. Rebecca HAMES on 12-30-1823 in Hall Co GA. Rebecca was the dau. of John HAMES and Charity JASPER. Elijah and Rebecca lived in both GA (prob. Hall Co) and SC (prob. in Union, Cherokee or Spartanburg Co) as they had children b. in both states. In 1830 Rebecca and the four oldest children can be found in Jackson Co AL. Elijah was living with William KING in Spartanburg Co SC at the taking of the 1830 census. This William KING was very active in the Big Creek Church in the 1790s. In 1840 the entire Elijah WADE family was living in Morgan Co AL. At the end of 1840 this part of Morgan Co AL became part of Marshall Co AL. In 1850 and 1860 they appear on the Marshall Co AL census. I can find no record of Elijah and Rebecca after the 1860 Marshall Co AL census. Known children were: 1. Elizabeth WADE b. abt. 1825 GA m. Nicholas BLAKE in 1842 Marshall Co AL. 2. A son (don't know the name) b. abt. 1825. 3. Margaret WADE b. abt. 1827 AL m. John BLAKE in 1842 Marshall Co AL. 4. Nancy C WADE b. abt. 1830 AL m. Jesse MATHIS in 1847 Marshall Co AL. 5. Martha A WADE b. abt. 1833 SC m. Claiborn C. WATERS in 1854 Marshall Co AL. 6. William WADE b. abt. 1834 AL (my gg-grandfather) m. Catharine CRAIG in 1855 Marshall Co AL. Catharine CRAIG was the dau. of Leonard CRAIG 7. A son (don't know the name) b. bet. 1836 -1840. 8. twins Elijah WADE Jr and Elisha WADE b. abt. 1842 AL. Elijah Jr m. Eliza BLAKE More info: My Elijah WADE was not the son of David Bingley WADE. David Bingley WADE was b. 2-18-1755. David's son Elijah was b. bet. 1791 and 1799 (prob. 1791). My Elijah WADE was b. abt. 1804. Several census show Elijah as being born in SC. I would very much appreciate any help with finding Elijah's parents and I thank you for your patience. Eldon WADE
I am trying to locate James R. BRYAN and his wife, Susan DENMAN BRYAN on the 1860 census. They were born in Franklin Co., GA. They were married there in 1849 and were listed on the 1850 census with their first child. I cannot find them in 1860. I believe that they moved to the Jackson Co., AL area in the mid 1850s because several of the children's death certificates (in Texas in the 1940s state they were born in Alabama in the late 1850s). So they should be in Jackson or Dekalb Co., Alabama. Can anyone help me? Thanks. Jackie Morgan

I would appreciate any help anyone can give regarding the following branches: >1) Fred Clay (b. 17 June 1877) in Wayne Co., Missouri, supposedly to William Clay and Nancy Mullins. I found Fred in the 1880 census listed under Martin and >Nancy Clay and siblings. I have very little family history to go on, however, Fred was supposedly orphaned at an early age. Searching back, Martin did have a brother named William. Most early Wayne Co. records were destroyed by fire or >stolen. Any ideas as to how I can concretely determined Fred's father? >2) Martin and William were born to James and Nancy Clay of Jackson Co. Alabama (1846 and 1844). Listmembers, When advertising web sites, chats, books, services, etc. please only advertise things having to do with this county or the state of Alabama. Messages pertaining to other geographical areas or genealogy in general are not allowed on this list. RootsWeb has hundreds of lists for practically every geographical area and genealogical interest, so there is no need to post off-topic messages even if they are of a genealogical nature. Also keep in mind most people consider any advertising (even if it is genealogy related) as spam, and by posting such messages you can open yourself to flaming and hate mail. I don't mean to appear narrow-minded or undiplomatic. I am only doing what I think is best for the list. If you have any questions, comments or concerns please e-mail me privately.
