Hi! My family names are ANDERSON, MILLER, and VANDEVER. My 4th great grandfather was Horatio Anderson who was first married to Elizabeth ?? in NC. Elizabeth died and he married Catherine L. Williams on Feb. 19, 1854 in Jackson Co. He had 12 children from both marriages. His daughter Mary Anderson b. 1826 in NC married a Thomas Prince abt 1855. His other daughter Nancy Evaline Anderson [my 3rd great grandmother] married Joshiah Thomas Miller Oct. 6, 1853 in Jackson Co. They had 3 children, Elizabeth who married James T Vandever on Nov. 14, 1872 in Jackson Co. , Sarah Ann [my great grandmother] who married John Davis abt 1880 in TX. and a brother [Allen] Melvin . The Vandever's and Miller's came to Cooke and Denton Co. TX. before 1880. Ethel I was wondering if there might be a connection between Thomas Prince and your Jesse and Delilah Carter Prince? The Millers and Anderson's also lived in Paint Rock Valley and Estill Fork. Thanks, Judy from Texas

My GRIDER line in Jackson County begins with Francis Marion GRIDER/GUIDER/GRYDER and Martha Louise GOLD GRIDER. Martha's mother was a WININGER and her dad a GOLD. MY COOLEY side starts with James William (Preacher Will or Preacher COOLEY) and Lucinda Annie Jane SMITH COOLEY. James William COOLEY came from Tennessee and is the son of Jesse COOLEY and Martha COOLEY (I think her maiden name was COOLEY). Lucinda Annie Jane SMITH COOLEY moved to Jackson County, Al. from Bledsoe Co., Tn (with her mother (Mary Jane) sister (Martha), brothers Issac (Ike) and Jim. Annie COOLEY'S parents were Issac SMITH and Mary Jane HICKS SMITH. I would also like to know if anyone can start me on the path of finding Martha (Mary) COOLEY Ellis. This is my grandmothers sister. I would like to know the HICKS side of the family. Of course it could be spelled HIX or any of the other spellings. Kay, Hi, I've been mostly researching my parent's families (with an eye toward doing my husband's in the future). I couldn't let your email pass, though. My husband's grandfather's name was Howard Harold Perry. He was adopted by his aunt, Bertha (BARNES) Perry. He was born 16 JAN 1910 in Orme/Rexton, Marion County, TN. His biological mother's name was OLLY BARNES (the biological father's name was not listed on the birth cert., we don't know who he was). She was born in Chattanooga, TN. I also have a birth registration for a JESSIE IRINE BARNES, born 20 JUNE 1910, in Rexton, TN. Her parent's names were JOE BARNES and MARY BARNES. Joe Barnes was born in Chattanooga, TN and Mary (nee?) Barnes was born in Bridgeport, AL. The doctor for the birth of both Howard and Jessie was a Dr. Morgan. Howard also had two sisters, LEONA (BARNES) PACK born 20 MAY 1912, and a sister we think was named CHRISTINE. I believe that Leona was likewise adopted by the aunt, but Christine was adopted out of the family. As an adult, Christine was married to a United States diplomat and she traced her genealogy (this family tree has since been lost!!!!). She contacted Howard and Leona, but now we have no way of contacting her. Leona passed away 27 FEB 1994 in Decatur, AL. Howard lived for a large portion of his life in and around Scottsboro, Jackson County, AL, his final address being in Scottsboro. He passed away on 17 AUG 1994. If you think we can make a connection, please email me! If not, you might save my email for future reference. Thanks, Joanne Parmley

ALSO, THE ISAAC SMITH LINE I AM RESEARCHING. ISAAC SMITH CAME FROM ALBEMARLE CO., VA TO LINCOLN CO., TN, FROM LINCOLN INTO JACKSON CO., AL (PAINT ROCK VALLEY). BY 1840, ISAAC HAD MOVED ON INTO MARSHALL CO, AL AND BY 1850 WAS LIVING IN HIS YOUNGEST DAUGHTER'S HOME IN BLOUNT CO., AL, THEN IN HIS 70'S. ISAAC WAS BORN 1777 IN MARYLAND. HIS WIFE WAS ELIZABETH LULAI MULLINS, DAU/O ANTONIO MOLINA (CHG. TO ANTHONY MULLINS), AN ITALIAN WHO BECAME A VA COLONIAL, PRE-REV. WAR & SERVED THROUGHOUT THAT WAR. ANTONIO MOLINA WAS FATHER OF 18 CH. (BY RS PENSION RECORD) AND HIS SMITH SON-IN-LAW HAD TEN CH. HIMSELF WITH ELIZABETH MULLINS SMITH. AMONG ISAAC'S CHILDREN WAS A GARLIN SMITH AND A WM. GREENE SMITH, WHICH MAY HELP TO ID THE GROUP. AMONG OTHER OF ISAAC SMITH'S CHILDREN WERE ELIZABETH AND YOUNGER SISTER RACHEL. MY LINE IS THAT OF JACOB CARLOCK KIMBROUGH WHO MARRIED BOTH ELIZ. AND HER YOUNGER SISTER RACHEL, FROM THE LATTER OF WHOM I DESCEND. JACOB/RACHEL'S SON, WILLIAM BRADLEY DUKE KIMBROUGH, WAS MY GRT-GRANDFATHER. KAY G. KLWRAGEG@aol.com
Looking for Harbert (Herbert) SMITH, died Marshall Co. 1838, and his wife, Elizabeth Christina Lyon SMITH, who died a few years later in Jackson Co. Harbert and sons Isham and William owned land in Jackson Co. and lived there until Marshall Co. was formed. Info appreciated. Maydelle Smith Meier
I AM SEEKING THE MAIDEN SURNAME OF CYNTHIA MALINDA (____) WHO MARRIED WILLIAM T. GUNTER, BOTH B. TN 1817. IN THE WILLIAM T. GUNTER HOUSEHOLD 1860 JACKSON CO., AL, OTHER THAN THE WM., T. GUNTER FAMILY, WILLIAM T'S BROTHER, MILTON, WAS THE WIDOW OF BENJAMIN FRANKS, J.P. (ELIZABETH NEE VAUT) AND ELIZABETH'S NEPHEW, BENJAMIN BROYLES. CYNTHIA WAS NOT THE DAU. OF BENJAMIN/ELIZ. FRANKS (A CHILDLESS COUPLE, BUT WITH 3 CH. IN HOUSEHOLD MADISON CO., AL 1830 CEN.), THOUGH WM. T. WAS ADMINISTRATOR OF BENJAMIN FRANKS ESTATE C1853. CYNTHIA (___) GUNTER MAY HAVE BEEN A NIECE OF EITHER BENJAMIN OR ELIZABETH, AS BENJ.'S NEPHEW JOHN FRANKS WAS ONE OF THE CHILDREN IN THE FRANKS HOUSEHOLD 1830 MADISON CO., AL. THE SURNAMES CONNECTED TO BENJAMIN & ELIZABETH FRANKS ARE: FRANKS, VAUGHT, BROYLES AND SISCO THAT ARE KNOWN. BENJAMIN FRANKS HAD A SISTER WHO MARRIED A SISCO, SO CYNTHIA MIGHT HAVE COME FROM ANY OF THESE FAMILIES OR FROM A LINE UNKNOWN. LOSS OF MANY OF THE EARLY BRIDGEPORT (& OTHER JACKSON CO., AL) EARLY MARRIAGE RECORDS HAS BEEN A SERIOUS BRICK WALL. KAY G. KLWRAGEG@aol.com

I am looking for information on the following surnames: Bell - In the Sand Mountain area from the late 1870s to present. Cabaniss - In the Sand Mountain (Langston) area. Henderson - In the Section or Powell area from the late 1870s. Stewart - In the Sand Mountain area. Thank You Walter
Hello, List! My mother's family comes from Jackson County--Sand Mountain, originally known as Racoon Mountain. It includes a lot of the Cherokee families who managed to avoid removal westward in the 1830s. For instance, there was a James COOPER living in one of the first cabins in Jackson County in 1820 who deposed his nephew Isaac Cooper from Wayne Co., Kentucky in a famous law case. Another mixed blood relative was Dr. William Alexander DAVIS who succeeded Chief Arthur BURNS as the last chief of the Jackson County Cherokees. Some went west, some disappeared, some blended. Surnames I am interested in are COOPER, ADAIR, TROXELL, BLEVINS, BURKE, WILLIAMS, SMITH, SHANKLE, FOSSETT, GOFF, PROCTOR, BLACK, SIZEMORE, LACKEY, KIEFF, REDWINE, GOBLE and BUNDREN/BONDURANT. Would be interested in corresponding with others and sharing information. Donald Panther-Yates
