Hello, My Jackson County names are ASHLEY and PRINCE. My ggggrandparents, James and Phoebe ? Ashley came form SC to Jackson CO. THey were thereby 1815, when my gggrandfather Daniel was born, and also is brother Willis in 1816, who turned out to be a gggrandfather also. According to 1850 census they lived there until about 1833, because son Michael was born in TN. They had moved across the state line into Franklin CO. TN. Another of their sons, James Jordan owned 2400 acres in Franklin County at one time, with another brother Elias. There are still some of my Ashley cousins in both states and also the counties. Another set of ggggrandparents were Jesse and Delilah Carter Prince and Zachariah and Susannah Prince. Both families moved to Jackson County about 1832. Zachariah and Susannah moved their family to Hot Springs County, summer 1854. At some point after that, Jesse and Delialh moved to Fannin County, GA, as they are in the 1860 census there. Then they disappear before 1870, apparently dieing, but we don't not know for sure. Both Prince brothers became my ggggrandparents, as my grandparents, who married in 1910, were descended from them. There are still Prince Counsins in Jackson co. Would love to hear from them Ethel Taylor Bandony1@cs.com 55500 Bates Rd. I have roots in Jackson and Marshall after it was formed. I look for parents of Robert Childress and also Delilah ? married in Jackson in 1830. They don't appear on any 1830 census I have found. They remained in Marshall until his death and Delilah does not appear on any census after 1860 as a Childress. My maternal grandparents were James Dove and Blanche William's. They lived near Russell cave in the Bridgeport/Orme area. James father was Jim Dove and Mother was Catherine Anderson. His siblings were Gilbert Buck Dove and sisters Winnie and Nan. My children's maternal grandparents were from Fabius. He was Lee Cox and married Veva Eaton. Veva's parents were Sam Eaton and Melvine Williams. I will share with my cousins what I have. This is a great web site and I enjoy the mail. Jim Childress (I lived in Jackson for 15 years.) now in New Orleans Grandpano@freewwweb.com

Family of Francis Marion GRIDER/GUIDER/GRYDER born in Blount County. Tennessee. Tombstone says he was born in 1857 BUT according to the census of Tennessee he would have been born around 1859. His parents were Joseph GRIDER (Joseph says he was born in Rockbridge Co., Va.) and Ann Eliza TUCK from Blount Co. Tn. He married Martha Louisa GOLD in Winchester, Tennessee but they lived in Jackson County. They still have one living daughter Dorothy GRIDER Brandon Talley. She is about 95 years old. Martha GOLD's parents were Frances WININGER and Elijah GOLD. A lot of this family is buried at Skyline in the GOLD cemetery. The COOLEY family started with James William COOLEY born 1883 in Tennessee (may have been Bledsoe Co.) His parents were Jessie COOLEY and Martha ? COOLEY. James William COOLEY married 1905 in Hollywood, Lucinda Jane SMITH born 1886 in Tennessee. Her parents were Isaac SMITH and Mary Jane HICKS SMITH. I would love to know where Mary Jane HICKS SMITH is buried. She was suppose to have come to Jackson County Alabama with her four children: Jim, Isaac, Martha and Lucinda Annie Jane. I don't think Jim or Isaac ever married but Martha may have married a Ellis or Elliot. Isaac married a second time in 1890 to Angeline GOINS in Bledsoe Co., Tennessee.
