Just to keep all of your who bought Houston County, Alabama Heritage Books in the last 2 1/2 years... We, the Book Project Committee, have finally begun to get pages back from the printers to proofread, correct, etc. This is very tedious work and we want to get the book just as accurate as we know how; so, bear with us. Last week, a committee member and I worked from 8:30-11:30 and had only finished 5 pages; the next day... from 8:00-12:00 and had only finished 6 pages; and on Friday, 8:15-12:00 and we were finally on page 23 of the first batch of pages that we have been sent. We will be working on batches as they are sent to us to proof and correct. We think that the book is going to be a good one; but, we, also, know that some of you are wondering if there is ever going to be a book. Yes! We are working just as hard as we can to get this accomplished. It will--in all honesty--probably be next April or May before we see the "finished' book. We, the volunteer committee, want to see this work finished and the book out just as badly--if not more--than you do; soooooo Hang in there with us! When the book is finished, it will be mailed directly to the ones who paid for shipping and handling. For the ones of us, who said that we would pick them up, you will probably receive a letter telling you when and where (in Dothan) the pickup will be. We expect the pickup to last--maybe--about 3 days. Keep our progress on your prayer list and tell others who might have an interest in Houston County (once a part of Henry) that the pre-publication price is still in effect for a time. After the book is so far along, the price will go up quite a bit. Just to keep you posted. I have talked with Chairman of other county books and they say that this time frame ( 2 1/2-3 years) is typical and the work on the book's proofing was tedious for them also.
