    1. [ALHouston] dairy
    2. <PRE>My aunt asked me to research this question. I am hoping someone in the Wiregrass area will have help to offer. Was there ever a dairy in the vacinity of Cottonwood that serviced the general store(s) in that area? My mother and aunt were there visiting family gravesites at Ramah Church about 20 years ago and heard the general store they remembered as children was closing. They went over to the site and bought some small momentos---including a wooden delivery crate from a dairy. The story goes that someone in the store told them it had been used as a checker board for many years there----long enough that their grandfather probably played on it too. That would move the date to the early 1900s. I won't have access to the actual crate for 2-3 months. Hopefully I can read a name on it. Can anyone help with history? Thanks, Linda

    3. At: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.geneva&m=598 I have posted a school picture of Powell's one room schoolhouse which, judging based on the age of my relatives, would have been taken about 1910. This school was located in the southeast part of Geneva County on State Road 4 near the county line with present day Houston County. The school is no longer standing. It was not far from the present location of Mount Calvary Church. The school was located on land owned by my great uncle, "Bud" Powell. Many kids from the nearby area of Southwest Houston County probably attended this school as well. I have identified all the people I can in this picture; I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can identify anyone else in this picture. Surnames mentioned include: Andrews Duck Hodges Powell Summerford Tew

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZS.2ADI/161.2.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Yes Nell you are correct, Bevel was not Laura Virginia, Jennies', maiden name, and daughter Florie, not Flora as some records show was certainly not ILLIGETIMATE ! Florie Orena Bevel Conrad was my Grandmother and her father was Thomas Jefferson Bevel who died soon after she was born, he is buried in the Gordon City Cemetery in Gordon, AL.Per my Grandmothers social security application, her mothers maiden name was Laura Virginia Whittaker. After Jennie married James I. Hatcher, she had several more children including my Great Aunt Dannie still living in Marianna, FL. Other kids included, Maggie, Estelle, Orbie ....The James I. Hatcher that was married to Jennie is buried in the Coonrod Family Cemetery near Malone, FL off of Line Road.In the Coonrod/Conrad cemetery survey prepared by Rhonda Watson, she has the headstone info on James I. listed and in the notes lists him as James Isaac. I have not looked further into to this as I am not researching the Hatchers. However in sear! ching for info on Jennie, I recall a Hatcher site somewhere with more info.

Surnames: HATCHER, BEVEL Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZS.2ADI/161.2.1.1 Message Board Post: According to the 1910 census: 1910 JacksonCo, FL census, Carpenter Twp, p 47A, Flora Bevel, st-dau, age 9 bn FL, living w/st-fat James Hatcher. So Laura Virginia's maiden name was not Bevel unless the child Flora was illegitimate. I will assume Laura married a Bevel before marrying James. I have also not found any records showing either James Sr or Jr having the middle name of Isaac. I find only the initial "I" in various records.
