    2. Upcoming Houston County, Alabama Heritage Book (part of 67 county volumes + master index) is still available at pre-order price: $54 (if you plan to pickup) $59 (if you want your book(s) mailed) Send check payable to: Houston County, Alabama Heritage Book P.O. Box 81 Dothan, AL 36301-3413 We, the volunteer committee, are working on page galleys weekly--proofing and editing, etc. We have just finished the A-G's of the Family History Section; and, we have already finished the Topical Section. We hope--fingers crossed and a lot of hard work ahead--that our book will be out somewhere in the ballpark of maybe May, 2003. We are trying to be very careful; and, if we see anything that doesn't seem just right, we are picking up the phone and calling people to help get it right. There will not be many copies published over the pre-orders that we have so if you want a book, now is the time. Ceya Minder Chairman/Family Editor Reminder@comcast.net

    1. [ALHouston] William C. Barlow buried Flanders Field
    2. I am trying to help Patrick as much as I can using the internet. In 1880 Leroy H. Barlow was living in household with his father Anderson A. Barlow in Pike County, Alabama. In 1900 Leroy H. (L. H.) Barlow can be found on the 1900 Pike County Census, Dixon, with his family to include William C. Barlow, age 11. I've been unable to find them in 1910. I do know they were in Houston later on. Found newspaper articles on W. C. Barlow at Ancestry.com. One interesting note on him referred to Catalow Barlow. In 1920 Leroy H. Barlow, wife and daughter are living in Houston County. In 1918 W. C. Barlow married Effie Palmer. I do not find an Effie Barlow on the 1920 census and no record of her having remarried in Houston County. Both Leroy H. Barlow and his wife Russia Bryan Barlow are buried in the Dothan City Cemetery. Hopefully with this info, someone else may be able to assist him. I will also keep trying. Surely, there was an article in the Dothan Eagle about his death. If his mother went to France as a Gold Star Mother may have been an article in the Dothan Eagle. Just need to find out if she did go when. Jeanette

    2. This is taken from my local newspaper, The Dothan Eagle; Dothan, Alabama in the section of the paper called ... "Letters to the Editor". If anyone can help this patriotic person from Belgium, I am sure he would appreciate it. Ceya Minder ===================================================================== "Researching Veteran"... My name is Patrick Lernout. I live in Waregem-Belgium at about one mile from te U.S. Flanders Field military cemetery. As I am interested in the history of World War I, this cemetery has my special attention. I started to write a book about the soldiers buried here. So I am looking for as much information about all those men. I think wthat would be a great tribute for those young Americans who gave their lives for the freedom of our country. In the cemetery is a soldier called Private William C. Barlow of Co. F. 105th Engineers. He was from Ashford, but his mother lived in Dothan. He was killed in action August 27, 1918. Does anyone have information about him or some history, addresses or photos? William C. Barlow was the only Alabma soldier in the Flanders Field cemetery. Under here are the datea bout the Gold Star Mother. Contact me: Patrick Lernout Drafstraat 15 8790 WARGEM BELGIUM Tel/fax: 32-56-61-33-41 or by email: patrick.lernout@pandora.be
