The story I have is that Jessie did in a fire of some kind around 1905 and George courted her younger sister Annie Elizabeth Cooley around 1908. George W ONEAL bn abt 1871 in GA was the son of James B ONEAL who was born in SC abt 1824. James ONEAL was married to a Barabary/Barbara sometime around 1849--possibly in Gadsden County Florida where they are found in the census years bet 1850 and 1870. I am pretty sure that this James B ONEAL is the same one who served with the Company C 6th Regiment Florida Infantry--Confederate. James ONEAL was living in Henry County in 1900 as a widow with 2 of his daughters Margaret and Leila both listed as school teachers. Would appreciate any info on where they may have taught. I would like to know what may have happened to James and children Mary, Margaret, Thomas, James and Leila. George and his 2nd wife Annie are found in Houston County in the 1910 and 1920 census'. They relocated to POLK COUNTY, FL sometime between the 1920 and 1930. Would be very interested in hearing from anyone who may know anything about this family
Have just gotten word that the Houston County, Alabama Heritage book will go to press in about two more weeks. To those of you who have supported this project, hold tight; it's going to be a great book. Ceya Minder Chairman/Family Editor Reminder@comcast.net

It says his father's name was F-e-r-?-?-y Powell, (it is very difficult to read as it was handwritten), but the last letter is definitely a Y. No mother 's name is listed. Date of death was Sep 5, 1911, in Houston Co. and that his age was 30 (This would put his birth about 1881). It states he was born in Alabama, and was a farmer. He is buried in Ardilla, AL., but no name of a cemetery is mentioned. Could this be the same Fernie (Ferney)? I had an Aunt tell me that Benjamin's mother's name was Verna Ruth. Ever hear of her?
Allison, I would like more information on this project; I don't just give out this type of information to just "any" project. Whose project is this? What do they do with the family group sheets? Will they sell them to others? Does this information become the property of someone else after we submit a family group sheet. Will someone be selling cd's with our information? Personally, I don't think this has been explained enough. We will be waiting to hear more. Whose "new national" project is it? This could be a good thing; but, I am not making the leap until more is explained about this project. >>Tributes to my friend, Homer Jones, abound everywhere on the net. Here >>is another... >> >>Ceya Minder >>Reminder@comcast.net ============================================================== In Memoriam Homer T. Jones Ozark, Alabama I feel the loss of a true and respected friend, as do many of us here on the History-Sites.Com message boards. Homer T. Jones of Ozark, Alabama has passed away due to a lingering bout with cancer. Many of us had known of Homer's diagnosis and the fact that it was described as terminal, but on my last contact with him, Homer had been told that we might have him with us till September or October of this year. The news that Homer has passed away this June 16th is a real shock and many of us here on the message boards will sorely miss him. When I first opened the Alabama in the Civil War Message Board, Homer was one of our first and most dedicated supporters. It is undeniable that for questions regarding the personnel and local history of Southern Alabama, Homer was THE source for information. His years of research of personnel records, unit histories, personal stories and the locations of burials was overwhelming. Many who had searched for years without results for their long-lost Civil War ancestor received immediate and complete responses due to Homer's research. Homer was an author and editor, as well. His books, Recollections of War Times, Land Grants & Adults Residing in Fayette County, Alabama, 1823-1900, Pike County Alabama Cemetery Records and Census of Confederate Veterans in Southeast Alabama in 1907 are excellent reference materials and highly recommended. Homer was; at least, semi-homebound over the last few years and I know a bright spot in his day was visiting and communicating with others on the message boards. He was a friend to all of us and I think he felt like we were his. I will miss Homer T. Jones, terribly, as will many here on this site. I hope others will continue Homer's work and perhaps his reams of papers might find a home in some suitable location, accessible to the public. Homer, thank you for your kind and helpful responses to all here and thank you for being a supportive and caring friend. You are irreplaceable and we will not forget you. Jim Martin History-Sites.Com

One of the sweetest, most helpful, knowledgeable men I know has just passed on. He was such a dear friend to me; although, we had only met once and emailed about genealogy and Civil War items hundreds of times. He will certainly be missed!!! He was a real Southern gentlemen in all respects; and had such a love for people and Civil War soldiers. He was the founder of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp in Ozark (now defunct); and very supportive of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and all things patriotic. My sympathy goes out to Homer's family! It is really hard to lose someone of his demeanor! Mrs. Ceya Minder (Robert E.)
