A 1909 article states there were 3 stores, a couple of dwellings and the now famous Poplar Head springs twenty years before. It says people camped there overnight as they passed through. And in 1909, after the name of the town was changed to Dothan a swimming pool was built at the old Poplar Head springs. The name was changed to Dothan before Houston County was formed; an old RR map shows Dothen (sic) in Henry Co.

My greatgrand mother was a Koonce. Many are buried in the cemetery in Columbia,Al. However some were buried in a family cemetery across the Chattahoochee River in Early County, Ga. I'm looking for this cemetery. I need to know if anyone knows anything about it, or where it may be located. I found the one about 4 miles north of Columbia, Al. just off of 134. The cemetery in Early county was surveyed in 1960 by E.H.Hayes. It contained 5 graves, dating back to 1859.Any help would be helpful. Thanks.

My Anthony G. Drew is the son of Anthony Drew and Elizabeth Jane Peterson (both born in NC, died in Dale Co - he died 1880, she died 1915). The only information I have is from my grandmother's Bible, confirmed with census records. It was in the census that I found Anthony G. Drew, son. Any information you can get would be most appreciated.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ZS.2ADI/103.2.1.1 Message Board Post: HI CHUCK; i think wiiliams full name was william z. m. chambliss. if it was then he is buried at friendship cem near malone fl. only he is listed as z. m. chambliss b. oct 6 1872. die aug 11 1940 there are some names of chambliss buried next to him. but my great aunt mary frances ( fannie )grantham is not listed there. i know three of his sons are there. they are zacky melvin , luther, and q.t. . my father and q.t. grew up togather. my father used to visit q.t. in his younger days at malone.. one of williams grand son,s lives in birmingham, al. i have a sister that lives up there and has spoken with him on several occaisons but i cant remember his name. william and mary frances were married in covington county, al. and moved to malone fl. after marriage. the entire family is found on the 1920 houston county, al census. thier kids named are carlton zacky melvin benarthur grady gno ( could be geno ) lucea clayton luther q.t. i have no idea where william was born. but i suspect in jackson county, fl near malone since he and fannie settled there after marriage. sincerily joel
