Update on the Houston County, Alabama Heritage Book: The Houston County Heritage Book project committee has now finished proofing and editing page galleys of the Topical Section of the book: History, Veteran's of Houston County, Professionals, Marriages, Clubs and Organizations, etc. This will be mailed off this week. We will now begin the tedious task of proofing the Family History Section. This will be more tedious as there are so many names and dates that we want to be sure and proofread carefully. The book is really going to be a good one! We hope (fingers crossed) that we will have it back to the printer and out by May. Keep us on your prayer list. If you have not pre-ordered yours, now is the time. The book is still $54.00 plus $5.00 shipping and handling; or if you plan to pick your copy up, the bokk is only $54.00. Only a limited number of books will be printed over the number that are already pre-ordered. If you want a book, now is the time to get in your order. Send all orders to the P.O. box: Houston Co, Heritage Book P.O. Box 81 Dothan, AL 36302 To find out about all the county books in Alabama, log onto this site and browse around: www.heritagepublishing.net Ceya Minder, Chairman HCHB Reminder@comcast.net Please forward this message to other lists in your area. Good morning Listers. If anyone has the 1910 census for Houston Co., I'm looking for the family of Henry GILMORE. I believe the wife's name was Leenie or Leedie. There was at least a daughter Bertie for sure. Bertie later married Charlie Avery in Houston Co. @ 1916. Thanks for your help in advance. Don

We went to the Pea River cemetery and found William's and Jane Grant Etheridge and little Willie and Emma. Have pics of those markers. I am descended from their daughter Lula Belle who m. W. F. Davis. We looked for Giles and Mary Grant markers and never found them. Although, several people have told us they are there. My husband 'suspects' William's father may be Richard Ethridge married to a ?Eliza? Henderson. He tried to get Richard's probate records, but the LDS had the records out filming them. Richard did own land in Barbour County when he died, but lived in MS or LA when he died. Any pictures of the family or other markers (including Grants) or other descendant info would be appreciated. I have lots of info on W F. Davis and Belle Ethridge descendants (and pics of them). Am at a 'wall' with both of their parentages at the moment.

I am hoping anyone linked to these families (in any way) will help with a preservation project for the burial sites of our ancestors. The Smith Family Cemetery is in very bad shape. Some day, in the not too distant future their resting place will not be known. Planning this alone makes it (almost) impossible. Please email me if you are interested in helping. Thank you, Gale Stafford-Wall kittykatcove@aol.com
In my humble opinion... it is a "piddly" publication with what little bit of local news and surrounding area news they left out of the Eagle, which I don't like either!!! It is put out by the same publishers as The Dothan Eagle and everyone I know says that if it were not for the obituaries, they would just drop their suscription! They are strictly for business and not really all that interested in local news or community activities. They do make a stab at it though. We have had to beg for the past two years to get the tiniest bit of information out on the Houston County Heritage Book so now, when it comes out, some people are going to say... "Well! I surely wish I had known about it!" Sorry to be the bearer of such news; but, it's true! If you subscribe to The Dothan Eagle, you can pay $1 more and get The Dothan Progress. A bargain??? No! I quickly looked through my grandmother's notes and papers and did not immediately find the newspaper clipping to which I referred earlier. However, I did find the "memorial information" distributed at Willis J. Barrington's funeral in Florida. The basic information is the following: Willis J. Barrington Born December 24, 1868 Died May 8, 1957 Tampa, Florida Services: Bloomingdale Baptist Church Officiating: Rev. S. L. Dombrosky Interment: Bloomingdale Cemetery In a list of Marion Madison Barrington's children I find, in my grandmother's hand, "Willis Gordon or Jordan Barrington." At some point she was not sure of his middle name. The information above (initial J.), however, would indicate that he was named or used the name Willis Jordan. Willis Jordan Barrington was the son of Marion Madison Barrington and Ann Margaret Heidt and the brother of my great grandfather John Madison Barrington.
