Might be too many 'thoughts' but the thought is a good one. Same is true for states. Maine and Massachusetts come to mind. Maine became a state in or about 1818, taken from that part of Massachusetts. While efforts have been made to secure the early records in Massachusetts for Maine, one should look both places. But certainly most states started out with far fewer counties than they now have. Mary WY CO
