Paul is right. I will also as a web writer volunteer to check peoples sites. One person can go into over load trying to take that on alone. doc type and meta and a few other things bring a site up top. Also, knowing the newer standards even google uses one needs to know just how those tags are used and what page contents also are used. Web writing can be demanding, not all web page editors are good, and not all use of those are validated. One needs to use a good web page editor or learn how to just do it free hand. You don't have to use just the word genealogy how ever. If its not in your meta or in your web page in certain tags, it wont work any way. As for just ALHN abbreviated, people have no clue, same for Us Gen Web. I interview lots of people out here, out of about 200 I ask them about genealogy, us gen web and ect, almost all never heard of us gen web, half never tried genealogy, the rest did not care, 60% of 100 people here don't even have computers and 20% of the 60, only use the pc for going online but not into genealogy, the rest are into looking up every thing they can find, but maybe 5 of those I talked to might like to try genealogy. I had my own genealogy society for a few years, there are not very many dedicated people out there, those that are, find rootsweb, my family and ancestry and genforum first, them other other mirad of groups that are out there. So, is what Paul said - and as I have always said clear back on my groups for many years, you cant get enough advertising, and advertising wont work if not properly designed. Get folks to know what ALHN means, American Local History Network, put that in your headers. And on the main pages so when people hear or see the abbreviation, they will associate it. Go out in public and ask people, find out what I did. Most people don't have a clue about internet let alone projects. No point busting butt if no ones home. So, any one wants help there are those that can, not all sites are in html, that's gone on a way side, there are newer codes and some are like a language from outer space, like css and html 5. So, if you learn and editor, find out where it makes your meta and doctype before uploading it. Well, guess I got carried away, but if we are going to be a group, we need to work like one.
