    2. .CFM pages only work on a ColdFusion Server. Your database has to be connected to the ColdFusion Server. The server turns the CFML code into HTML using the database connection. Hostek.com was the least expensive ColdFusion Server I could find. GoDaddy used to have a better price on ColdFusion, but they dropped ColdFusion out from under all of us that had accounts there, said to stay with them, we could learn something else like Ruby on Rails??? Well all those are much more complicated than ColdFusion. You don't need a program to code ColdFusion, you just have to know the code. You could do it in WordPad, I use Dreamweaver. Check out our County Clerk site at http://www.alachuaclerk.org/archive or the Alachua County Virtual Cemetery Project http://www.wizardofar.org/ for an idea of what can be done... Sign up to be a Volunteer on the Alachua County Clerk site to try out our Volunteer forms... http://www.alachuaclerk.org/archive/CFDocs/Common/SurInsert.cfm Jim > I like the cold fusion ideas. > I have the prg. 3. It is a standard for websites that use css (cascading Style Sheets): http://www.w3.org/ One thing that you can do to make it easier for people to find your website on Google searches is to include a meta data tag: Here's an example: <head> <meta name="description" content="Free Web tutorials"> Be sure to include the name of your state <meta name="keywords" content="HTML,CSS,XML,JavaScript"> <meta name="author" content="Ståle Refsnes"> <meta charset="UTF-8"> </head> This website has information about how to use this tag: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_meta.asp Cyndy On Thu, Nov 14, 2013 at 3:17 PM, Mary Saban <msaban@wyoming.com> wrote: > What is 'w3c' compliance? > > Mary > > -----Original Message----- > From: Joyce Gaston Reece > Sent: Thursday, November 14, 2013 11:48 AM > To: ALHN-GENERAL > Subject: [ALHN-GENERAL] Tennessee > > Just to let you all know....since I’m tik-kled purple and pink.....that > Tennessee’s alhn web site is headed toward w3c compliance and is looking > great while doing it. > > I’m so very proud of Cyndy Cox for doing this and continuing to do it. > > And BIG things are headed YOUR way if you need help in doing this to your > site.... > > > > Joyce Gaston Reece,President > American Local History Network > Join us in celebrating our 20th year! > www.alhn.org > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > ALHN-GENERAL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > ALHN-GENERAL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

    2. Facebook definitely is a way to reward Volunteers with a "Good Job" and allow competition among them for who can do the most this week &c. Or you can say look what so and so found today while transcribing. You can develop new ways to use words... I have one AWESOME Volunteer. She has transcribed over 6,200 pages. Her name is Karen... I told everyone that they didn't have to be a "Karen", that every page is very much appreciated and anyone can ask for a login and give it a try. I have one gentleman that lives in an assisted care facility, he was the Clerk's Boy Scout Leader way back. I wasn't very hopeful when he actually had to drop by to learn what to do... Now he is on his way to 100 pages at 93 pages and counting. He has done a very good job on every page. He does lose which page he was working on last and saved on the server every so often and I have to find it and remind him. And then off he goes. 3. Please just one more try? Really, with the plans that we have for tapping into all the different types of social media, the volunteer recruitment committee the marketing committee and a load of other things then perhaps you won't have to HUNT for volunteers.....they'll come to you. Just getting a state site up is the primary thing right now. THAT has to come first. Take the site....do the cemeteries as you want to. Find an assistant or we'll help you find one if we can....if you want one, that its. I know what its like to have way too much to do....most of us are the same. I could give you a long list of things I'm behind on...... We have states site managers that are doing the whole state, Colleen, for one does all of Alaska. Just give us another chance. Depending on how folks have their resolutions set up. Pages will view differnetly. Same with size and widths and lengths. Many people getting a pc dont even know there is away to set the screen. Also some colors just dont fit togetger. A person might view thier pages to see if they have stand out contexts. Font styles are another. Using non traditional fonts a viewer will not see it as intended some times because not every ones pc might have those fonts.then that pc will render its own version. I saw it using my cell phonen screen it was ok. 3. I have dream weaver , also some asp stuff. Its been a long time since I dropped all those for html 4.01, I been stuck using past ten years. I guess most browsers translate the all not any how. I was worried the html 4 was going obsolete I thought about a newer editor so I could use newer codes with out going long hand, most of the time when re fixing web pages I run multiples in note tab. 3. I always validate my own. Also depends on the code as to what validator to use and the preferences in the validator to include every thing or a light look. I set mine so it shows where I miss the alternates and other things. So many different codes its not something just one person holds knowledge on all codes. I plan to stick with html 4.01. People have switched to html 5 . Some use editors. . I noticed the doctype on that blog was rather limited and lots of html errors. Guess blog editors have thier own validator. I will be open to learning blogs. As of now.. I tried word press and ended up with scammers and wierdos on it and plus I was having fun trying to figute it out. I know a lot. But I also know enough I can learn from others as well as help. 3. Web site code compliance. google WC3. There are page validators that show errors, I used mozilla plug in. But there is a website with wc3 that also validates any link you type in, any ones links.
