    3. Ok. This is something I need cleared because I have always been on one server but was not to sure what shared meant, I assumed something like a co-op. Also be it as it may, I always thought hosting companies all were one server. Some people like me just dont know it all and need a push lol;) Dan M ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kevin Subra" <kevin.subra@gmail.com> To: <alhn-general@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 03, 2013 10:34 AM Subject: Re: [ALHN-GENERAL] [ALHN-BOARD] archive > Shared hosting is just that they host many domains on one box. 3. I looked over that site a bit more. One thing I have in question is, would alhn want to be on shared hosting? Or compared to my domain and dream host what is shared hosting exactly? Is it still 100 % ours or every ones? 3. Well - its been about a year. I bet there have been a few changes? That old yahoo group had 100 gig of archive space that came with the group, called the photo section, of course it has no clue if its a foto or doc. Also had a real data base. Unlike rootsweb plain text it was a real work place. Maybe some day a new group on yahoo with bell n whistles. Ya think ? Dan M

    3. Joyce, it would seem to me to just make it a part of the current alhn.org domain. Subaccounts can be setup seperate from the main ftp account. Nathan

    3. I would like to see the ALHN Archive on its own domain. However, that costs money. Approximately the cost is $110 yrly for web space and domain is approximately $10 first year, then goes to $15 or $20. As you know, ALHN has no money. So this isn't an option at this point. Since we can't do the domain, I would like to see the ALHN Archive placed on Rootsweb. The web site is free, if the site is a <www.rootsweb.ancestry.com> site there will not be any ads, the web site will be available online basically in perpetually. If Rootsweb/Ancestry decides to change policy we can always move someplace else. Make it a Great Genealogy Day! 3. I read that site. Looks impressive enough. far better than bluedomino offers with the hosting and domains. I think it should be looked into. I saw the word press but is there a picture gallery? On some domains they offer ( simple scripts ) what does dream host offer? I might just buy a domain today just to practice and see. 3. There is a problem waiting to happen. Same thing happened to others going on there. Us Gen web and some others. When rootsweb changed policy of having adds on free pages it confuses writing websites and just advertises for rootsweb. If the domain is a problem there are cheep domains. I have 100 gig for $23 each quarter. That includes online web editing or ftp, also setting pages per ftp to any volunteer, also includes word press and blogs and photo galleries. I can host, I think Judy offered once or so. There is another one I was looking at but I did not see what size. Some domains are expandable. you can check google with "cheep domains" or look at www.bluedomino.com thats one I use; or http://www.godaddy.com/ As for money, I will pledge a share if others follow. Also If any one gets influenced by my nagging to the Yahoo group, I will offer to manage it too.
