I've been to the Barbour County courthouse and heard rumors of the documents in the basement. I hope these documents come out into the light of day and are preserved before they're lost..... Judge Adams has taken on the monumental task of organizing and filming the long neglected records that are in the basement vault in the court house. These are records that the public has not had access to for many, many years. Judge Adams should be commended for her efforts. It was a mess down there. The important part of the letter is as follows: "you said you would make a donation to the "old records project". I mentioned at the time that the County Commission would need to open a bank account specifically for donations. They have done that now. Any contribution you can make will be greatly appreciated. Please make you check to the "Barbour County Commission" and mark it for "Probate Records Preservation". The address is Post Office Box 398, Clayton, Ala.36016" This pile of old abandoned records contains the old news papers of the county, court records that have never been up stairs in the main Probate vault. Original copies of wills and other legal papers that have never seen the light of day since they were stored in the 1800's. I have seen the good Judge loading these records in a car herself to take them to the office she has set aside for the microfilming. There is a wealth of new information for Barbour County researchers being very slowly made available to all of us thanks to Judge Adams. Send her a check Mac McAtee Oak Ridge, NC Researching the McLeod families of Barbour County --------------1A94503385A--
