Since his parents had died, the family returned to Monticello and lived in the antebellum home built by his father. Andrew took over the plantation and taught in an academy for young ladies. As a Southern Baptist minister, ordained in 1854 by the Bethel Baptist Church two miles from Monticello, he preached at several churches. These churches had services only one Sunday each month, as well as the prior Saturday. See the remainder in William Norman Moore's notes. In James Phillips will: "To my daughter Rhody Hardy, one negro woman name of Sarah, and one note of hand I hold against John Hardy for $133.321/2." Notes for JOHN HARDY: Before 1805, all of Jasper Co., GA was Indian hunting grounds and no white man could own land there. John, owned land about two miles north of Monticello, GA on state road 149, north of the creek. Later he sold this land to his brother-in-law, Daniel Phillips on Feb 20, 1833. In Georgia, John was living amongst his wife's kin, for Daniel lived next door. Spencer and Louisa who are listed with John and his wife on the 1850 Pulaski Co., GA census maybe grandchildren. HARDY: A few miles out of Dothan, AL where our ancestor, Richard Hardy, had a plantation, there is a Hardy Family Cemetery. It is on Suggs Road (.3 mile from Houston/Henry County Line on County Road #21...1.7 miles from SR #134...3 miles from first RR Crossing west on SR #134) There is also a Hardy Cemetery in Washington Co., FL near New Hope. Another Hardy Cemetery is in Dallas Co., AL near Selma, AL. This reminds me of the story Roscoe told me of three brothers coming to settle in southern Alabama. Notes for PHOEBE JANE HAMMOCK: On Jan 03, 1972, my husband and I visited the Hardy Cemetery where we recorded the birth and death dates of Phoebe from the tombstone. On Jun 14, 1989 I received the her Pension Papers file #5933 from National Archives/Washington DC. These papers contained a copy of the marriage license. Phoebe is listed under many different names: in Hardy Cemetery, as Phoebe J. wife of R. I. Hardy; marriage license in Houston County, Georgia as Jane Hammock; on pension papers as Phoebe Arjane Hardy. Argent is an ancient Cornish name. I have found the name corrupted as Arjine, Arjane, and other variants. iii. WILLIAM FRANKLIN HARDY, b. Mar 19, 1819, GA; d. Jun 22, 1884; m. HESTER ANN MIMS, Sep 15, 1842, Houston Co., GA; b.
