    2. minder
    3. Have just discovered that there is a recently marked CSA soldiers grave in the Blackwood Cemetery on County Road 83 out of Headland going NW. George W. Searcy, CSA Blackwood Cemetery Private, Company D 12 Regiment AL Inf. Confederate States Army b. June 13 1828 d. August 15, 1914 Grave has a new marker with gold lettering. I need the name of his wife, children, marker placed by whom; and I also want to know if this cemetery is the Blackwood Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery. I understand that the original church is now defunct; and, that the building was purchased and moved from this site. The cemetery is the only thing that remains; but, I really need to be sure that this was the denomination of the church--if anyone knows??? The General Willliam C. Oates AL #1342 Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy (Dothan, Alabama) has as one of its projects this year: the recording of CSA soldiers graves--the marked ones; and, locating and identifying "unmarked" ones. If you can send me your knowledge of any CSA soldiers graves in any of the southeast Alabama counties, we will fill out a form and send it to Richmond to be placed in the UDC Archives. Many of these graves get vandalized and eventually destroyed and this would--at least--provide a permanent record of this soldier and his final resting place. This is the data that is needed--as much of it as one can provide: NAME OF SOLDIER NAME OF CEMETERY MANAGER ADDRESS RANK OF CSA SOLDIER COMPANY REGIMENT REFERENCE (SOURCE OF RECORD oF MILITARY SERVICE) DATE OF BIRTH PLACE OF BIRTH DATE OF DEATH IS GRAVE MARKED? (IF UNMARKED, PLEASE GIVE LOCATION IN CEMETERY) IS CONFEDERATE SERVICE NOTED ON MARKER? IS IT A GOVERNMENT MARKER? IS IT A MEMORIAL MARKER (NO REMAINS BURIED)? IS THERE AN IRON CROSS? PLACED BY WHOM? PLEASE ADD ANY INFORMATION KNOWN ABOUT VETERAN'S: SPOUSE, CHILDREN, LIVING DESCENDANTS, ETC. If you send these to me, give me a statement (in your email) stating that I have your permission to send this to the UDC Business Office in Richmond and/or to any other museum that is preserving these CSA soldier's burial records. Looking forward to receiving your information to compile and send to Richmond by May, 2000. Be sure to include your name, address, phone, etc. If you have anything you want to attach to the form, write and I'll send you my mailing address. Feel free to forward this to other southeast Alabama researchers--whether in-state or out-of-state. Ceya Minder, President Gen. William C. Oates AL #1342 Dothan, Alabama
