    3. I am writing re Doris's <[email protected]> response to "A-T-K's Grannie" <[email protected]>. Could I impose and ask if you would check "Henry's Heritage, A History" re any other Rowland/Roland surnames? And/Or would you please send me the particulars on this book -- I would like to see if I can find it (perhaps at the Alabama Archives). I have been experiencing a frustrating time re obtaining marriage (or any other) information on this particular Rowland family. What little information I have I have was mostly gleaned from census records and some "information swaps" with other researchers from this particular line. It is: Thomas Roland/Rowland (born circa 1806 in SC) married America Ogletree (born circa 1911 in Georgia). Thomas's parents/siblings are unknown. America's father is thought by many to be David Ogletree; however he was most probably an uncle or other relative -- in "Early Records of Georgia Vol 1 and 2" he was apparently appointed as the 1st or 2nd guardian of America, (John Ogletree was also appointed guardian of America Ogletree, a minor); Benjamin. S. Ogletree was guardian of Nancy Ogletree; James T. Hackney was appointed guardian of Eliza Ogletree; William Pollard was appointed guardian of America Ogletree, orphan of David Ogletree on Sept. 1, 1828. Thomas and America's known children: Emily Rowland, born circa 1826 in Georgia; married Greenberry/Green Berry Coxwell February 21, 1846 in Barbour County, AL; they are both buried in Clarke County, AL Hilary I Rowland, (male) born circa 1832 in Georgia. Francis M Rowland, (male) born circa 1838 in Georgia. Nancy M Rowland, born circa 1838 in Georgia. Rebecca J. Rowland, born circa 1839 in Georgia; died December 24, 1905. Harritt Rowland, born circa 1842 in Georgia. (I have several different spellings for her 1st name.) Martha A. Rowland, born Abt. 1844 in Georgia. Martha had 2 children born out of wedlock, then married Ancil Partin this marriage produced 4 known children. Eliza L. Rowland, born Bet. December 09, 1851 - 1852 in Alabama; died August 01, 1921 in Conecuh County, Alabama. She married Stephen Joe Messer; they are buried in Conecuh County. David Nathan Rowland, (my husbands descends from him), born November 17, 1852; died July 10, 1944 in Conecuh County, Alabama. He married Edith Arelia Session. They are both buried in Brush Creek Cemetery in Conecuh County, AL. I find Thomas listed with America in the 1850 census in Henry County; they are together in Covington County in the 1860; he is in the 1870 census in Conecuh County but America is not listed. I have never found her death documentation. I am assuming their last 2 children (Eliza and David) were both born in Covington County. In the 1850 census, I find: ROLAND, THOS., 44M,FARMER, b. S.C. ROLAND, AMERICA,38F, b. GA. ROLAND, SUSANAH,19F, b. GA. ROLAND, HELARY J., 18M,FARMER, b. GA. ROLAND, NANCY M.,12F, b. GA. ROLAND, FRANCIS M.,12M b. GA. ROLAND, REBECCA, 11F, b. GA. ROLAND, HARRETT, 8F, b. GA. ROLAND, MARTHA A.,6F, b. GA. ROLAND, ELIGAH, 3M, b. AL. (This is actually an error -- this is Eliza, age 3, not a male ... see 1860 census below -- as well as other documentation) In the 1860 census, I find: 1860 Census: Andalusia/Covington Thomas America Rebecca Martha 19 Eliza 13 female Martha 8 As you can see, some of the children are no longer in the home, and I can only assume that they married either in Henry County or Covington County or became their "own" head of household. Rowland could be Elizabeth, perhaps she was first married to a Rowland and was born a Thornton. Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my request. Winnette
