Am experiencing some brick walls re my husband's paternal line. Thomas Roland/Rowland (born ca. 1806 in SC), wife America (born ca. 1811 in Georgia) was in Henry County in 1850 per the census: ROLAND, THOS., 44M, FARMER, b. S.C. ROLAND, AMERICA, 38F, b. GA. ROLAND, SUSANAH, 19F, b. GA. ROLAND, HELARY J., 18M, FARMER, b. GA. ROLAND, NANCY M., 12F, b. GA. ROLAND, FRANCIS M., 12M b. GA. ROLAND, REBECCA, 11F, b. GA. ROLAND, HARRETT, 8F, b. GA. ROLAND, MARTHA A., 6F, b. GA. ROLAND, ELIGAH, 3M, b. AL. (This is actually an error -- this is Eliza, female, age 3 ... see 1860 and subsequent censuses) In 1860 he and wife America are found in Andalusia/Covington County - sans most of his older children - specifically: Susanah, Helary J/Hilary J (male), Nancy, and Francis M (male). Thomas America Rebecca Martha 19 Eliza 13 female Martha 8 I have exhausted research in Covington County re these children - and find that I must return to Henry County for more research; they possibly married and remained there. Since traveling to Henry County is not in the near future, I am reposting this information. Have previously submitted this information to the list - but am doing so again hoping that some new members have joined the list who may be researching this same family. Thomas and his family ended up in Conecuh County; the youngest son, David Nathan Rowland, was born there November 17, 1852; his date of death is July 10, 1944, also in Conecuh County. It is from David that my husband descends. Would love to have contact with any relatives. [email protected]
I wonder if your brick wall is connected to mine. My ggrandmother was Jincy Ann Sophronia Rowland/Roland, born May 1856 in Alabama according to the 1900 Henry County census (her tombstone gives a birth year of 1852). She married Eli Strickland in 1880 and was enumerated in the 1880 Dale County census. I have been unable to connect her to any parents or siblings. She died 14 Dec 1905 and is buried at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Holmes County, Florida. I would dearly love to connect Jincy Ann to some parents and siblings. HELP!
