According to "The History of Henry County, Alabama" by Mrs. Marvin Scott, the three graves remaining in the Stokes Church Cemetery are James and Nancy Ward and James Jackson Ward. James Jackson Ward and Eliza Oates had two children, William James Ward and Ann L. Ward. After James Jackson Ward died Eliza married Henry Hutto and they moved to Polk County, TX between 1850 and 1860. William James Ward died in the Civil War. Henry Hutto, Eliza Oates Ward Hutto and Ann L. Ward Freeman Hanner are buried in the Oates Cemetery near Leggett in Polk County, TX.
