    3. I don't have the posting of the article to reference, but I believe the county referenced was Kershaw County. The newspaper may have made a mistake on the state. If the county referenced in the article was Kershaw it is a county in South Carolina rather than North Carolina. Just tryin' to help here, not intrude. ----- Original Message ----- From: <ApalacheeB@aol.com> To: <alhenry@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 19, 2006 10:46 PM Subject: Re: [ALHENRY] Source for Elias Parish/Parrish > > In a message dated 9/18/2006 9:16:44 P.M. Is Griffith Flowers any relation to Amanda Griffith who married 1) George Carter who died in the WBTS and 2) married William Flowers? They had one son John Flowers who is said to have died in the typhoid epidemic in the area in 1889. I have seen the grave of Griffith Flowers and wondered if it was coincidence or if there was a connection. Your learned input will be appreciated! Also, the first church in Camp Springs was the Post Oak Missionary Baptist Church established in 1849. The original church house is believed to have set not far from the Flowers plot in the older section of the cemetery. The church was at the halfway point between the antebellum towns of Abbeville and Columbia. It took two days to make this journey circa 1849, so travelers would stop at a fresh water stream just about 200 yards north of Post Oak Church. This stream became known as “The Camp Spring.” On June 17, 1854, the Post Oak Church changed its name to ‘The Camp Spring Church”, with the “s” being added to Spring through the last 157 years. According to church records, Elder S. M. Douglas was the moderator and preacher during this name-changing meeting. Is he one of the Douglas family you mentioned? If so, I would like to know more about him as well. Many thanks!!! Steve “Historian” of Halesburg/Camp Springs Communities

    2. Hey Lannie! Thank you for your response! I wasn't necessarily referring to the post regarding credit for research. It was a number of issues that occurred in other threads, with other people, as well. It seemed as if everyone was getting "snippy" with one another. I probably should have kept my mouth shut, but I was just tired of the negative exchanges that were going on. I don't care what my ancestors did either. I just want to know from where I came! Anything that I discover, I will gladly share with anyone. I know how difficult it can be to "dig up" someone. Hopefully, I will make it easier on future researchers by the work I have done! Thanks again for your response, Lannie! This is one of nearly 100 unmarked graves found in this cemetery established circa 1849 when the original church, the Post Oak Missionary Baptist Church was established. The name was changed to Camp Spring Church in 1854. The supposed grave of E. F. Beard is on Charlotte's right side. Her tombstone information is: Charlotte Beard--February 13, 1890--abt 60 years old--wife of E. F. Beard. Charlotte Howard married E. F. Beard Janaury 9, 1866. The Howards are an old family in the Camp Springs Community. Would like to know where the name of Flowers became a part of Charlotte's name. There are several Flowers buried nearby to her grave.
