I don't know why I didn't see your note earlier; Henry County is on my "notifications" list. I firmly believe that India(ana?) Raley was the daughter of Henry D. Raley and Caroline Matilda Jane Elliott, and that Henry was my gggf's (Benjamin M. Raley) brother. I'll summarize my "evidence." I have a copy of my gggf's Indian Wars pension application. An affidavit submitted in the application by a Dr. Miles Mountain, contains a note that he (Dr. Mountain)knew "2 or 3" of my gggf's brothers when Dr. Mountain was living in Clay County, Georgia. Dr. Mountain is in the 1860 Clay County census (spelled MountEin); the only Raleys in that census were Henry and Charles. I have confirmation that Charles was Ben's brother (from Charles' widow's penison application.) This same Dr. Mountain mentioned another one of Ben's brothers (not by name) who was "killed in the last war," which probably referred to the Civil War. The pension applicaton was submitted in 1892. I think the record on the Clay County GenWeb site about a Henry D. Raley who was killed in the Civil War is for ! this Henry. Henry Raley and Caroline Matilda Jane Elliott were married in Early County, GA 6/19/1851. The spelling of Henry's name in the Early County records is "Rabry." FamilySearch.org has it "Rabey." I believe you are one of my Raley cousins. Let's connect via email and share more notes.

You are right I did not know what I was thinking by saying she was a GAMBLE. I was thinking of Martha GAMBLE and Robert KENNEDY. Steve, I suspect Gatsey Ann Pellum was born in Barnwell rather than Barnville. I have her father Uriah Middleton Pellum [Elder Pellum from Shilo Primitive Baptist Church] br 23 Sept 1795 in Barnwell and Uriah's mother Lydia Kirkland, dob unk in Barnwell and father Ambrose Pellum, Sr died in Barnwell in 1802. However, Elder T. C. McClenny in a letter written 30 July 1930 published in the Primitive Baptist Magazine, Vol XLC, 4 Dec 1930 stated: "First I want to say that my father David McClenny was born in North Carolina, December 25, 1816. My mother, Gatsy Ann Pellum was born in Barnville District, South Carolina, her birthdate unknown to me." Two things come to mind. One being the letter would have been handwritten and secondly in Elder McClenny's own words: "In conclusion will state that my own age is 81 years, 4 months and 8 days at this writing." I can readily see where Barnwell could have easily been mistaken to be Barnville. In passing I might also mention that Elder McClenny in the very last line of his letter stated: "If any of my old acquaintances in Alabama see this, I would like to hear from them personally." Having moved from Alabama to Texas in 1899, he still cherished his old friendships in Alabama. I can't answer your question about the Carrs. Sarah Carr's father was James Carr and her mother was Elizabeth Unknown. Thomas Charles and Sarah married in 1871 in the home of James Carr. The Alabama marriage license records show J. H. Medley, Minister of Gospel as having performed the ceremony. They appear on the 1880 census at Cox's Mill but I don't know where that was in relation to the places you mentioned. Obviously, I need to do more research on the Carr family. Good to hear from you and I will get back to you soon - hopefully- on some of the other information you sent me. Attention Ward researchers. There is a deed in Henry County you may want to see. Some of you may already know of this deed. There was a Farris Ward who indentured his two children to William R. Blackshear on Dec 25, 1837, in Henry County Courthouse Book A, page 301. These children were: Daugther - Nancy Ward, b.Jan 10, 1834 Daugther - Mary Jane Ward, b. Jun 29, 1837 Hope this helps. Helon
