Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.henry/5517/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for assistance in trying to find records on the Spanish American War Veterans from the State of Alabama. I am trying to gather any and all information about them, and anyone who is interested in helping please feel free to contact me at Johnnyreb6@aol.com. I am currently gathering the rosters of all the Southern Volunteers who served in the Spanish American War, and as you can imagine it's pretty difficult trying to locate all these men by ones self, so I'm looking for any help that I can get. I'm looking for any artifacts, grave locations, personal documents, etc... regarding the Veterans of 1898' to 1902' from Mississippi, or any other State for that matter. This is part of a larger effort by myself and the members of the Micah John Jenkins Camp No. 164, Sons of Spanish American War Veterans, to try and make sure that the Veterans of the Spanish American War, Philippine Insurrection, and China Relief Expedition, are remembered. If anyone is interested in more information about the S.S.A.W.V. please feel free to visit our website at: http://www.geocities.com/sonsofspanamwar/, as well as for information about the General William C. Oates Outpost of Northern Alabama or the Lieutenant Richmond P. Hobson Outpost of Southern Alabama, of this Camp. Thank you all for your time, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Kenneth H. Robison II, Camp President, Micah J. Jenkins Camp No. 164, Sons of Spanish American War Veterans.

She was listed in the Henry County Alabama Marriage Records for that year. Julia Oates was also listed on the 1880 census for Henry County Alabama. There is a rumor in the family that Colonel William Calvin Oates sired children from either slaves or sharecroppers in the 1860s while living in Abbeville, Alabama.

In 1879 a Mary Oates, who was of Mixed blood married James Wommack she was 18. Also a mulatto named Julia Oates was enumerated in the household of my thirdgreatgrandfather Ephraim Oates on the 1880 census. She was a servant. I would like to find the names of the slaves in my family, but if I will be openning a can of worms so to speak I will leave the matter alone. On the 1790 census of North Carolina James Oates my fifthgreatgrandfather owned 3. His daughter in law on the 1840 census of Henry County Alabama had 8 or 10. Ephraim's name on the roster of the Henry Mounted Rebels 1863, showed he had charge of 20 negroes. So this must have been those from his mother's plantation. I do not want to open a can of worms. Just curiouos what Longs and Wards are you descended from.

    1. [ALHENRY] Harris Family Line(s) of Henry CO
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Harris, Nobles, Fears Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.alabama.counties.henry/5516/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I discovered a Harris family connection in a Nobles family bible recently. My ancestor is Martha H. Harris of Laurens CO, SC who married James Noble(s). Both died in 1835 but they had 12 children and many ended up in Henry CO by 1837. On the 1840 census, John H Nobles is living next door to a "C Harris". Further down the page, there is a "John Hanes or Harris" and an "Edward J Harris". Does anyone know who these Harris men are? Where are they from? What happened to C Harris after 1840? I suspect that maybe these Harrises are kin to my Nobles line. In 1860, a William W Harris had James Nobles, age 20, living at his residence. William's wife was Nancy Fears, who would be James Nobles' aunt (James Nobles parents were Lewis M Nobles and Margaret "Peggy" Fears, sister of Nancy Fears). I am wondering if this William Harris was also a cousin of James Nobles. I am also wondering if the "C Harris" is Charles Harris, possible father of Martha Harris who married Henry T Adams of Henry CO. Their first son was named Charles Harris Adams. Thank you in advance.

Surnames: Snell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YS.2ADI/5515 Message Board Post: I am looking for the cemetery that John Burton Snell and Emmaliza Jordan Snell were buried. J. Burton Snell was born on March 20, 1880 and lived all of his life in Gordan, Houston, Alabama. His wife Emma Jordan Snell was born abt 1879 in Jackson County, Florida, moved up to in, Alabama and as far as I know they both died their. The last census that they appeared in was from 1920 for Gordan, Houston, Alabama. They were not found in any 1930 census. So from that I am assuming that they died sometime before 1930.For some reason no one in my family seems to know where they are buried. If anyone knows where they were layed to rest, I would surely appreciate it. Thanks, Sandi

They are both buried at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Pansey, Houston, Alabama. Can anyone help me link an earlier generation (Luke and Frank Jordan's parents)? I found out that they were born in N.C. through census records starting from 1850 to 1930.

Surnames: Kennedy, Carter, Miller, Stanley Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YS.2ADI/5512.1 Message Board Post: Anyone have information on Doss Kennedy who was a native of Shorterville and the old Kennedy family there? Circa 1910 he was living in Halesburg, then a boomtown, working as a clerk in the Carter and Miller Mercantile on Main Street. He discovered the murdered body of merchant Woody Stanley one morning that year while opening the windows (shutters) for business. I believe he was a brother to Dr. Thomas Kennedy who was an educator in Halesburg in the late 1800s and then a physican in 1905 when he died at his Main Street home. The school he taught was in a building known as "The Kennedy Schoolhouse." Any info will be appreciated.

    1. [ALHENRY] Genealogy Research Site
    2. Genealogy LookUp Forum is a web site of volunteers who will do various types of genealogical look ups such as births, census, cemetery, deaths and marriage. We are also looking for new volunteers that have access to records that may help others as well. We do have our own genealogy chat room that is moderated by Hosts who are very helpful on giving others genealogical advice. They will do look ups from several paid online resources for those who do not have access to them. We have a weekly chat called GENTREK with HOSTS that give a genealogical presentation class to the members each week. The topics are different every week. These are mini genealogy classes to help us to become better researchers. Two times a week we hold genealogy trivia games which are very educational and loads of fun. Please visit our site to locate a volunteer in your area or join our genealogy chat for some great help. I am sure you will not be disappointed. _http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~genealogylookup/index.html_ (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~genealogylookup/index.html)
