    3. Donna, The first place would be the Columbia City Cemetery that is now next to Houston County High School. It began to be used as the town's burial ground in 1836 when the newly formed Missionary Baptist Church was built here breaking away from the original Baptist Church that became a Primitive Baptist congregation down in Old Columbia in what is recorded in Deed Book A-B as an "unholy dispute". I have a copy of CEMETERY SURVEY--COLUMBIA, ALABAMA, by Janie E. Wood, 1994. It would give me great pleasure to do look ups in it for you. Just send me your names. Feel free to contact me on my private email: jselliott37@yahoo.com. The location of the church here is what gives us the name of "Church Street" for that section of Alabama Highway 52 as it passes through the town. The Methodist Church was built on this street many, many years later. This church built in today's cemetery was what is today the First Baptist Church of Columbia located on North Main Street since the late 1880s. Two interesting charter members of this new Missionary Baptist Chruch were Gen. Bartlett Smith as one and his coach driver, January Smith, a Negro slave, as another. Separate African American churches rarely if ever existed before the end of the War for Southern independence in 1865. Indeed, most plantation owners encouraged membership in the local white churches because a Christian slave was more domicile. And, the churches of the time extolled the virtures of a slave obeying his master creating the illusion that slavery was annointed by God and the slaves should accept their roles in this life. The slaves did not always join their master's church, but could join anywhere with written permission. If your ancestors were settlers in the "piney woods"--deeper into the interior of Old Henry County, there are other cemeteries to explore once you give me a general location of their settlement. Ebenezer in just to the west of Columbia. If they were from north of Columbia the next large cemetery is at Camp Springs or Haleburg which I have survey's for these two cemeteries as well. And, should fortune smile on us, you will be looking for someone whom I have already met somewhere back in time and I can share what I know about them or put you in touch with someone else who can help you in your research. If these ancestors are African American, I do not have survey booklets, but can give you directions to several in the area. Very Henry Countily Yours, Steve Hello my good friend, Hugh!! We need to shake the trees in Randolph County, Georgia again one of these days!!! I am most humbled by your flattering words. I guess when you love something, its hard not to show it!! I have quite a bit of information on Rebecca's family, but am still looking for Jonathan's parents. I think I asked about him on this board last year, and I'm wondering if anything new has surfaced. You were kind enough to answer me with what you had, so I think if anyone would know, it would be you. Steve, a few years ago you mentioned on this board that you were working on a history of the Allens and Blackshears. Did you finish it? If so, I would very much like a copy. Please let me know how much it would cost. Thanks very much, Genie Usher

The name of Putnam County has come up a lot when related to the Anglin family. I must search further, but I think the portion of Putnam County where they lived is now in Twiggs County today. The "Aunglin" spelling of Anglin is not surprising since they spelled phonically as it sounded to them. Kathryn might not have been able to write her name or to correct it. Or, the clerk wrote it and did not show it to them to correct. Genie, how does your line run from Randolph (Randall) Blackshear? If you will, begin with Randolph and list the generations down to you. Okay? Thanks for your reply!! Steve Elliott

At this time there is NO match to any other Starling being tested. You will recall that this was a 37 marker test through Family Tree DNA. We do know that we DO NOT match the lines of Elisha Starling and Margaret Millnor , their son Seth Starling of Sumter County SC; Levi; James Stirling of CT; other Starling lines. The information for all lines being tested can be viewed at: http://www.stirling-dna.info/ Our Starling male's results are: 33/37 markers with surname Lapworth; 23/25 markers match with the surnames of Sanchez; Head; two under Jackson; Henry; Livingston; Nickels; Chandler and Remirez (MacGregor). On a happier note, no one to my knowledge has yet to prove their line to Issac. If it has been proven, lets share the information complete with sources! Jeff Gamble has graciously offered to pay for testing a male from the Seth Starling line of Sampson County SC. We do all hope that someone will step forward. It is a generous offer. The marker tests is completely private. Your identity does not have to be revealed. It is better to include your earliest proven ancestor. No one from this line has been tested to date. Ginny

Remirez (MacGregor) is our best lead at the moment. He is of the MacGregor/Stirling line. Interestingly there are quite a few Stirlings who match and are involved in their study. The markers tested indicate a relationship. That time frame is unknown as of now. Unfortunately Remirez was only tested on 25 markers as opposed to our 37 markers. I would upgrade his test but have done all I can afford for the moment. Upgrading cost is $99.00. The 37 marker test is a $191.00 value and is completely private. No one from this line has been tested to date. Ginny
