In a message dated 99-04-20 20:56:10 EDT, you write: << A ton of my Henry ancestors crossed over to Early County Georgia to get married.......anyone have any idea why? Were the certificates cheaper or easier to get in Georgia? >> Don't forget Taylor and Crawford Counties in Ga. many went there to get married. It could be because families were there. That was the case of my Glover famil. Nathan O'Neal Glover married Emma Jane Gray in Taylor County in 1879. He had family in both Henry/Barbour Counties in Al and also in Taylor/Crawford Co. Ga. I am desparately seeking parents and siblings of my William Jones as well as his wife's maiden name and parents. William PEEBLES and Elizabeth COXWELL were married about 1802 in Kershaw County, SC. By 1803 they lived in Sumter County, SC. By 1826 they were in Henry County, AL where Elizabeth died in 1852. William then married her widowed sister, Nancy COXWELL BLANKENSHIP. Nancy's first husband was ? David ? BLANKENSHIP. Does any of the above information connect with anyone reading this post? Nancy is my GGGrandmother and the above was learned and conjectured today, 4/24/99. Before today, she was a "brick wall". Please help me fill in the blanks. Thanks . . . Bob Bryant
I am researching for a Bowen Family known to have been in the Abbeville area, Early County area in Georgia, Russell County in Alabama, and in Henry County, Alabama as well. He married a Mary L. Hays in Carroll County, Georgia in June of 1853. They later moved into Alabama for awhile and had several children there also. Andrew had a previous wife-name unknown, but they had two children by the names of James White Bowen born in 1846 and Lucinda Bowen born in 1848. Both of these children were born in Alabama. If anyone has any information please contact me and advise. Thank you, Cory Bowen.
Hi list, Still looking for info on siblings and parents of King David Golden/Golding. He moved back and forth from Early, Ga to Henry and Dale, AL during the 1840's to 1880. He died in Henry about 1884 after marrying 2nd wife Francis A. Henly there in 1874. He had an older son, King, who married a Vickers girl in Henry Co in 1850 and then I lost track of him. Check out the Golden link on my web page at Goldenroots home page if interested. Thanks, Teri Golden
Hi, My two cents worth... Our Rubin Pershing Culpepper & Jeanette Hand went over into Early co., Georgia an also got married as did one of her sisters...I will ask her why? Maybe age difference...maybe they could get married younger in Georgia, I believe she was 15 yrs old??? Or without consent... << A ton of my Henry ancestors crossed over to Early County Georgia to get married.......anyone have any idea why? Is anyone researching any Shott-Schott-Choat, etc. families anywhere. I have hesitated to work in it because of the difficulty of the spelling of the name, among other problems. My g-g-grandmother was Nancy Jane Shott (or she was married to a Shott or a Stubblefield). Nancy Jane was born May 1825 Tennessee and died Nov 1913, probably Houston County, Texas. She is on the 1850 Rusk Co. Tx census with the Stubblefield family, and we can't tell if she was a Stubblefield or a Shott. She married Evan Morgan after 1860 and brought with her a child named Susan F.--and always went by the name of Susan F. Morgan who was born May 1838 Texas. Susan F. Morgan d. aft 1920 and was married to Henry Scarborough. In 1880 Houston Co census--Henry Scarborough was age 66 b. Ms. and Susan was age 32. They were in Jasper Co., Texas by 1900. Susan F. Scarborough was last found on the 1920 Harris Co., Texas census. Children of Susan F. Morgan and Henry Scarborough were: l. anna b. 1873 Houston Co., Tx 2. Henry J. Jr. b. 1874 Houston C. Tx 3. Leroy W. b. 1880 Houston Co. Tx 4. Emma D. Scarborough b. Feb 1883 Jasper Co. Tx 5. Esther J. Scarborough b. Apr 1885 Jasper Co. Tx 6. Willie A. Scarborough b. May 1887 Jasper Co. Tx married ______Gotcher 7. Cora Scarborough b. Feb 1888 Jasper Co. Tx 8. Adell Scarborough Would like to work on Schott (any spelling) anywhere. Pat Welch
Le, I posted a WATSON message (which included Solomon) on April 17th--maybe you missed it. My Solomon Hutto married Martha Watson, and I am trying to identify her parents. There were two Watson's living with S. L. Solomon on the 1850 Henry Co. Al census. Do you know how these Watson's are related to the Solomon family? S.L. Solomon 43 Germany Sarah A 33 Ga Richard A 16 Fl Malinda J 13 Al Margarett J 12 Al L.S. 10 Al Lydia A 6 Al Francis W 4 Ga Franklin W 4 Ga***** Carolin 2 Ga Caroline 2 Fl DAVIS, John L 22 Ga BLACKS"ON, Alpha W.B. 20 Ga WATSON, M.R. 19 Fl WATOSN, Jane B 16 Fl I just wonder if my ancestor John Franklin Madden (son of Michael Madden b. 1806 Ireland--in same county)was named after him. Also wonder if my Solomon Hutto was named after S. L. Solomon or one of the Solomon's, as that name does not run in the Hutto line--and both are German-Swiss. I've been getting a lot of "resubscribes" from people on the list lately. I think individuals are feeling like they've dropped off the list, when in reality, we haven't had any activity lately. I am researching Captain Appling's Company, 3rd Battalion Alabama Reserves. My gggreat grandfather enlisted August 1, 1864 in Abbeville, Henry County Alabama. Does anyone have any information on this particular Regiment? Also am looking for any information on the following people: Andrew Jackson Bowen-born 1819 in Georgia. Had two children born in Alabama by the names of James White Bowen born December 7, 1846, and Lucinda Bowen born April 30, 1848. I have no information on his wife. I believe that she may have died, because in June of 1853 he later marries A Mary Lee Hayes from Early County, Georgia. If anyone has any information it will greatly be appreciated. Thank you, Cory Bowen.
