    1. Introduction to the many lists I am on!!
    2. John R. Harrell
    3. Sometime ago, a few of the lists were requesting background information or an introduction of each genealogists on the list. I am way behind and never did get my introduction to any of the lists. So here goes...:) I was destined to research my family's genealogy. I am a Yankee from outside of Detroit, Michigan. If you are a true Michigander then you refer to the shape of the state as the "Mitten". Most people just show the palm of their hand and point to where they are from or are now residing. This gets quite a few laughs from the Southern folk. You guessed it, my husband is a "red neck". At the age of seven I would make family trees and ask my grandmother to spell all the polish and german names for me. At that age those weird names could not have been in my vocabulary. I would sit for hours and love to listen to my grandmother 'Irene" tell stories about, "the old country". She talked about the War and how poor everyone was and that most people coming from Europe where looking for prosperity. I have most of my families heirlooms such as; wedding rings and watches with engravings of special events, clothing and toys. Are these considered proof or documentation of their lives? I was always given pictures by my mother and grandmother. Somehow I ended up with so much that they had to come over to my house in NC to copy all the information and pictures from me! My husbands family originated in NC, But I met him in Escambia Co., Milton, Florida. My mother is suppose to give me the family trunk to keep all my goodies in! Of course there is one other family member that wants the trunk, so I am sure there will be a family fued about it!! The kinds of information that was given to me at the age of 19: report cards, baptisms, cemetery records, pictures, postcards, church booklets, birth cert., death and marriage etc. I use to be called the junk collector of my family. I have learned to mix the new or modern with the old to display my treasures! I spend way to much time on my computer communicating with everyone on lists. I drive all my family members crazy with questions and probing to find out any tid bits that may get me one more generation back. My Aunt has more Census, birth, death and marriage certificates than I do--but I feel I have all the real good Momento's that you can't buy in a library, archives or county builiding. I really started to put my work on computer about three years ago. I am fairly new to this system. I use Family Tree Maker and am getting sick and tired of purchasing upgrades. I want to get a new computer, so I can put my entire genealogy to one CD, with pictures and all. My mother is down this week from Michigan to get copies of as much as she can for my brother (who never was interested before), incidently he wants the family trunk!!Ha! However, I will be sure to try my hardest to get it. :) I love to help anyone on the lists that need it. Anyone not on the list I will help to. I am not beyond called relatives and talking to them long enough until they give up some informaiton or family secrets. I will even attempt to talk with family members banished from the family long ago, call relatives no one likes, call ex-wives, ex-husbands or call anyone that the "family" knows have stolen bibles, picture albums, etc. Yes, I am addicted, aren't you??? 1. Fw: More than one George Washington Hammac
    2. John R. Harrell
    3. Seems to be some confusion about my post. There are more than one George Washington Hammac's One is married to a Jane Holland George : 1844-1899 Alabama The other is married to Mary Bagget. George : 1813-1893 born in GA and may be on TN Cenus, moved to Al. ***All of my husbands Kin, usually named their sons and grandson's with the same name. This leads to much confusion. 3. heheh...okay...one more....then I promise I'll shut up. Stephanie and others interested (if not hit your delete key NOW) :) Listowners manage the various lists that circulate on Rootsweb. I happen to manage this one. As "listowner" it is each individual's responsibility to add users who don't subscribe correctly, to delete individuals who don't unsubscribe correctly, and lastly to delete any users that we feel are "spamming" a list. It's a personal judgement call. I personally would contact an individual before I'd delete them from ALHenry-L for spamming to determine if it was a mistake or not. We're all human. 3. Lorie was not kicked off of this list. It is understandable that occassionaly, we all goof. But the best we can do is to keep the list on topic, so having said that.... Thanks to Keith for the recent Monk postings...I'm checking my database as I have info on Sarah Ham. Jeffrey ALHenry Listowner minder wrote: > > I vote that we give Lori Harrell another chance. 2. Lorie, Don't fell bad, I too have done the same thing, thinking it was legit and it wasn't and like you not knowing important things about the mail lists......and people sent me some really mean messages, I couldn't believe how mean telling me how stupid I was and didn't deserve to be online and lots of things I couldn't believe they were so vicious.............some folks just don't have any class or forgiveness in them......ya know everybody makes mistakes and they make more than just once in life.....don't let it get you down and try and get the red out of your face.......it wasn't a horrible mistakes just a minor one.......even though some folks don't treat it that way....it will be ok..........My head can still turn red just thinking about what all they said to me and that wasn't necessary..........just a simple no no with an explanation would do just fine My husbands Great Grandma was Elizabeth Harrell born 8-19-1854 in Camilla, Baker co., Ga married to William Culpepper born 9-2--1846 in unknown they were married 11-19-1874 in Beulah church in Henry Co., alabama (see how I made this genealogy-related so noone would be mad at me) Anyway just wanted you to know there are other people out there like you ( I am way grown too with a short online vocabulary and I don't spell good either....but I don't care....I try hard to do good and that's what counts) Also I get the Alabama Mail List and I will gladly forward it to you if you would like......Let me know. Vicki McGlaun Culpepper McGlaughon/McGlauhon/McGlohon/McGlaun Mail List Owner I<< I would like to apologize to everyone that received a spam from my e-mail. I just found out what a spam is the hard way!!! Before today I didn't know what a spam was??? I know you all think I'm stupid, but with three restuarants to run, a home and a teenager I don't have time to keep up on internet lingo. I received a joke about a "Cookie Recipe" from another genealogist and thought it was legitamate. However, I found out it was an old joke!! Joke was on me, because I was already kicked off the Alabama genealogy list for spamming faster than my head could spin. Hope everyone else doesn't fall into this trap. If anyone wants the e-mail to the person that did this to me, I would be glad to post. She may not have known either about this type of bad Joke. I have e-mailed her to see why she did it. The sad part is I had been helping all these sites for free, look-ups, free snail mail for folks that couldn't open files and free photo's at my expense. Not one time did I get to express what had happened to me before I was judge and hanged by a one person jury. The ax fell today! Thanks everyone for your help, Lorie Harrell QSCV@twave.net
