A contributor queried me regarding the Heritage Publications. In the spirit of perhaps spurring some input to the Henry County Webpage, I wanted to publish my response to the suggestion that a link to the Heritage Publication website be added: Jeffrey Responded: I wanted to respond to your e-mail so you didn't think I was ignoring you. I also want everyone to understand that I'm very open to suggestions and have implemented a great number into the Henry County webpage to always try to make it better. However, I historically have not put notices regarding commercial enterprises on the webpage. The Heritage publishings are exactly that. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for anything publishable if it helps a genealogist tie into new information. But the Henry County webpage has several queries, and primary source boards, as well has a biography board. Heritage is basically collecting "bios" and publishing them. If everyone contributing to this project would also contribute the information to the webpage, then the information would be available to ANYONE for free!! Consequently, I won't add any notice regarding this publication to the webpage. I hope you'll respect my intentions in this matter. Jeffrey
Jeffrey, I respect not putting information from "commercial" companies on this site; but, I would appreciate knowing when individuals publish something on their family lines. Can this type information be put up if YOU know it is just an "individual"? Also, can you put up genealogy books for sale for this area, e.g.--if I am through with some book from Henry County area and to not wish to keep it, can I post a "for sale" to this site??? Dear Cemetery Researchers, I am writing to give you an update on our work regarding The Historical Atlas of Alabama, Volume II: Cemetery Locations by County. Allow me to first thank everyone who has contributed to the project thus far. I apologize for not being able to personally respond to every submission. We have received hundreds of submissions so far and it would not be humanly possible to respond to each contributor. While our work is not complete, the end for this edition is in sight. Some people have asked if it is too late to submit information. This is an ongoing project and as such we welcome submissions at any time. While your information may not find its way into this edition, it will be included in future editions of the Atlas. Once the Atlas becomes circulated publicly, we fully anticipate new submissions and corrections. We consider this edition to be the beginning, rather than the end, of the cemetery atlas project. We have kept track of snail mail and email addresses and will make you aware of the availability of the completed book. Publication is still several months away. Once again, my thanks. Regards, Craig Remington Director, Cartographic Research Laboratory University of Alabama cartlab@bama.ua.edu

Verna Brice of Texas sent me a photo that she believes may be in the Henry or Barbour County area. It looks pretty old. Are there any out there that think they may be able to identify it? Let me know. In viewing the picture, I started wondering if there are others out there that might have pictures of landmarks and the geography of Henry County. If so, would they share with the group and could we put them up on the Henry County webpage for all to see? I personally am very visual and it helps me so much to see an environment where my ancestors may have walked, worked, and visited. Jeffrey

I don't know how many of you have had an opportunity to check out the land mapping project on the Henry County ALGenWeb page, but hopefully a fair number of you. I don't normally do this, but I have been so busy lately, I have not had the time to commit to the project to get it up completed within a reasonable time frame. If ANY of you would be interested in helping even a little, I would appreciate it. It is work you can do from your computer by sending requests to the Bureau of Land Management and recording the information, then feeding it back to me so that I can create the webpages. If any of you would be interested, I'll be happy to send you further info. By my estimation, and based on the speed of your computer and internet traffic, it takes about 30 minutes to map a quadrant of the county. Jeffrey
