I have just came from Barbour and know for a fact that Judge Anne Adams is working very hard on getting all the records microfilmed. She has a really good group of volunteers that are working nonstop to get all the files prepared for microfilming. Judge Adams received permission from the County Commissioners to set up a fund for the preservation of the records and donations are needed. Just go to the Barbour County web site and all the information is listed on the Home Page. I would like to take to ask all that if you live in the area donate some of your time to help get the job done. Please send your donations, this is our chance to preserve OUR FAMILIES history. Judge Adams is really dedicated to preserving all the records. Let's show her we do care and do everything we can to help her. Judge Adams has taken on the monumental task of organizing and filming the long neglected records that are in the basement vault in the court house. These are records that the public has not had access to for many, many years. Judge Adams should be commended for her efforts. It was a mess down there. The important part of the letter is as follows: "you said you would make a donation to the "old records project". I mentioned at the time that the County Commission would need to open a bank account specifically for donations. They have done that now. Any contribution you can make will be greatly appreciated. Please make you check to the "Barbour County Commission" and mark it for "Probate Records Preservation". The address is Post Office Box 398, Clayton, Ala.36016" This pile of old abandoned records contains the old news papers of the county, court records that have never been up stairs in the main Probate vault. Original copies of wills and other legal papers that have never seen the light of day since they were stored in the 1800's. I have seen the good Judge loading these records in a car herself to take them to the office she has set aside for the microfilming. There is a wealth of new information for Barbour County researchers being very slowly made available to all of us thanks to Judge Adams. Send her a check Mac McAtee Oak Ridge, NC Researching the McLeod families of Barbour County --------------1A94503385A--
Thought I would throw out my information on my Caddell line, my son is Kevin Dean CADDELL, his father b. John Calvin "JC" CADDELL 3 Jul 1944 in Hanford, WA to William Carroll CADDELL b. 25 Jun 1920 d. 13 Jun 1993 Artesia, CA. and Myrtle Adams Caddell of Abbeville, Henry Co., AL. William's SS# was issued in AL bef. 1951, his sister Melba Bernice Caddell McCool's SS# was issued in LA. I was hoping the SSN issue states would help identify this Caddell. William's father was also William Carroll CADDELL. Their mother's name was Tommie O. MacRorie when she died in 1991, in CA but I don't believe that was her maiden name, her SSN was also LA.
