In James Phillips will: "To my daughter Rhody Hardy, one negro woman name of Sarah, and one note of hand I hold against John Hardy for $133.321/2." Notes for JOHN HARDY: Before 1805, all of Jasper Co., GA was Indian hunting grounds and no white man could own land there. John, owned land about two miles north of Monticello, GA on state road 149, north of the creek. Later he sold this land to his brother-in-law, Daniel Phillips on Feb 20, 1833. It is on Suggs Road (.3 mile from Houston/Henry County Line on County Road #21...1.7 miles from SR #134...3 miles from first RR Crossing west on SR #134) There is also a Hardy Cemetery in Washington Co., FL near New Hope. Another Hardy Cemetery is in Dallas Co., AL near Selma, AL. This reminds me of the story Roscoe told me of three brothers coming to settle in southern Alabama. Notes for PHOEBE JANE HAMMOCK: On Jan 03, 1972, my husband and I visited the Hardy Cemetery where we recorded the birth and death dates of Phoebe from the tombstone. On Jun 14, 1989 I received the her Pension Papers file #5933 from National Archives/Washington DC. These papers contained a copy of the marriage license. Phoebe is listed under many different names: in Hardy Cemetery, as Phoebe J. wife of R. I. Hardy; marriage license in Houston County, Georgia as Jane Hammock; on pension papers as Phoebe Arjane Hardy. Argent is an ancient Cornish name. I have found the name corrupted as Arjine, Arjane, and other variants. iii. WILLIAM FRANKLIN HARDY, b. Mar 19, 1819, GA; d. Jun 22, 1884; m. HESTER ANN MIMS, Sep 15, 1842, Houston Co., GA; b. Sharon, I believe Wilford Webb may be Rice Webb's son. I have BLM evidence of Mary WEBB (Rice's wife was named Mary) buying land in 1820s. However, I still need to establish the link. A cousin sent notes that said Rice Webb was listed in the 1830 Henry Co, AL Census but did not list the entry. I do appreciate your response. Rice was RW soldier and apparently did not live long enough to collect pension. If you find anything specifically mentioning Rice in your rambles through your resources, it would be of great assistance. Thanks again! Anne

While searching on the net, I have found alot of Doswell's in these 2 volumes of the Quarterly. I would like to have copies of those issues/volumes. I have not heard of this before and don't know how/when/why its published, etc. Can someone tell me more about the Quarterly? Donna Ferris Penn Valley, CA
That's my boy Sharon! I was stuck at Isaac, didn't know his middle name and suspected his wife was Eliz. Morgan, but it was more of a guess, looking over the different internet sites. I also thought Thomas was his father but there are Thomas Doswells in Bedford, York & Hanover counties in VA. I want to send for some 29 items(52 images) the VA Historical has, I believe they were donated to them by a Wm Doswell. They want a $20. handling fee $13. for copies of all the images/items. Its a little more than I can afford right now but I will be ordering them soon, I got the envelope all ready. Can you tell me more about the Heritage books, could I find them in a library? Buy them somewhere? Thanks so much, this is a big step in my research!!!!!
