Wiggins cemetery/Mt Pleasant Baptist Church cem. (est. 1859) is north of Dothan off 231. It is on Dale Co. road 87 (Paramore Rd) right across from the Dothan Regional Airport on the east side. Patricia Long Dothan, Alabama
Thanks for the directions! I'll be "haunting" it soon! Stephanie
A lot of the folks (dozens) who migrated into (the old) Henry County from the old Sumter District, South Carolina in the 1830s and 40s are buried at the "Wiggins Church" including its namesake, Daniel Wiggins, who originally came from Virginia by way of North Carolina to South Carolina and then on to Henry after the Indians problems were over. Daniel is said to have been one of the originals who influenced others from SC to moved to Henry. Haven't been to the cemetery yet, but I bet it's a good 'un.

Perhaps he was a member of the state legislature. This isn't the same cemetery at Ardilla called Mt. Pleasant Primitive Baptist, is it? This is just south of Dothan. Stephanie
I recently found info. on Isaac Morgan DOSWELL that says he served in this Henry Co., Alabama unit and I can't find anything on this company/reg. I found one site that said it existed, but no info. was avail. It also says that he also served in the "house of rep."(democrat) 1911-1915. One would think I could find more about him than I have. I would welcome any info. on where else to look or find out more info. on this famous(infamous?) ancestor. Thanks Donna Ferris Penn Valley, CA
Patricia, I also have relatives in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. Do you know if there is an index of the names on a website? Linda, Sorry it took me so long to respond to the message about the cemetery located north of Dothan off 231 close to Grimes. This is the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery formerly known as Wiggins Church. This church and cemetery was est. in 1859. There are a LOT of old graves in this cemetery. Even though the cemetery is in Dale County, there are a lot of Henry County residents buried there. A lot of my ancestors are buried there and they were from the Newville/Headland area. Some of them were also from Dothan. There's a lot of valuable family history information in this cemetery. Patricia Long Dothan, Alabama jalpal@snowhill.com
Margie, I don't have any real 'history' of Pond Bethel, but the plaque on the church reads it was established in 1856. It is a very small little church and appears to still be in use. Sorry I can't tell you for sure about the GLOVERS, most of the time I only search for my line, but have 'learned' to pay more attention to other surnames also (not only to help others, but you may help yourself in the future!!). In a message dated 99-10-19 10:54:30 EDT, you write: << Just got in on the tail-end of your thing on Pond Bethel, but I do have a listing of all males (1808-1850) plus the Confederate veterans buried there if it will help. >> Is it possible to send them to me and I will put them up on the site, if is ok with you. I haven't updated the Barbour page. Rootsweb has been having server problems. Will try again tonight. Margie
