LOOKING FOR ANYONE RESEARCHING ELIZABETH WATERS THAT MARRIED BENJAMIN THOMLEY ABT 1873 IN OR AROUND HENRY CO,ALABAMA. IDELLA
Can anyone give me some information on the Grace-Mills Cemetery in Henry County near Shorterville? I am descended from Mills and I accidentally stumbled across this cemetery this past weekend as I was riding through the country. I was horrified at the shape of this place. Graves were sunken in and vines were everywhere! There was a marker for a Confederate soldier by the surname, Penuel. I would like to know who owns this land now. Are there any descendants of Mills that I can contact. Is there a land record concerning this cemetery? Anything ... that someone out here might provide. Thank you sincerely... Could someone help this lady (Saundra Brown) who is looking for her Major LEATH & family in Henry Co,AL? I couldn't help her and she seems pretty eager to learn of her family... Thanks, Martha ============= Hello, I was directed to you to talk about the Leath Land Patent and cemetery there in Columbia Alabama. BLM gave a designation that Major Leath (not Seath) bought some land there in Alabama. There is no Major Seath listed in any of the censuses. I did a search at Ancestry.com. I am interested in finding the Leath cemetery and getting to know who is buried there. I was wondering if you could take pictures of the gravestones there. I would reimburse you for this effort. I am in desperate need of some look ups in Henry County for John Faulk (Falk, Folk) and Faithy Faulk (Fathy Folk). There are 2 Faithy Faulks listed in the 1860 Henry County census, one being in the household of Joseph Wofford and his wife Sarah . The second is living next door to Soloman Starling and my GGGGrandfather Alva D Faulk and Uncle William Faulk. I believe this Faithy Falk to be Faithy Starling, daughter of JohnStarling and my GGGGrandmother. She appears in other census with John Faulk. I need proof of marriage for John, any land records for John and or Faithy Faulk. I also need the Civil War Card on Alva D Faulk showing his place of birth. I have ordered three times from the archives and never get the correct information on Alva. There is an 1855 Henry County census that could also be checked. I think they were back from Macon Co GA since Alva D appears on this census. I know its on the web but cant locate it again. I will cover the costs of travel and copying of documents With much appreciation stuck in the Pacific Northwest Ginny
Curious how many members of this list are desendants of the following two families that moved to Henry Alabama around the late 1820's? Elias Strickland born 14 Apr 1804 in NC, died 8 Jan 1858 somewhere between Alabama and Texas. Married to ( Synthia Starling born abt 1810 in NC, died 25 Jun 1872 in Henry County Alabama. Elias's sister Susannah Strickland born 6 Mar 1808 in NC, died Abt 1858 in Henry County Alabama Married to Solomon Starling born 22 Jul 1791 in NC, died 23 Jul 1874 in Henry County Alabama. They traveled down with Synthia and Solomon's father John Starling.born about Abt 1767 in NC, I believe he was widowed when he came down with his son and daughters families. He died Abt 1835 in Henry County. I have conversed with a couple of descendants of John Chambers Strickland, one of Elias' children, and I believe a descendent of Alfred Starling, one of Solomon's son's. I'm especially interested if there are any descendants of Elias' other children.
I am looking for information regarding Rebecca Pelham born 1823, daughter of Humphrey H. Pelham. Rebecca married my GG-Grandfather, Henry Ricco/Rico in Henry County, AL in November 1844. I have found info that they had two children, a daughter, Elizabeth Clementine Rico born in 1848 and a son, William Richard Humphrey Rico born in 1851. From what I've found, Rebecca died sometime shortly after William Richard was born, but I have been unable to find a cemetery listing for her. I would appreciate any help with finding info about Rebecca and also daughter, Elizabeth. Charlene Chambers Vacaville, CA
I am trying to learn more about a William CHANCEY born probably in around 1900, who I believed married a FRENCH (first name unknown). Does this ring a bell with anyone? Also, I understand there is a CHANCEY-MESSER cemetery in either Geneva Count or across the state line in Holmes County. Does anyone know anything about this? If so, has this cemetery been surveyed? Thanks! Best regards, Janet Zengel Messer Micanopy, Florida
I am trying to learn more about a "Coy MIXON" who married Lily/Lilla Mae MESSER in around 1925. I found them in the 1930 census living in Geneva County with 2 sons William (or Williard?) and Marvin R. age 5 and 4 respectively, and a daughter named Wilma age 2. I believe Lily was the daughter of Joseph A. and Zeppie MESSER, granddaughter of Alfred F. MESSER and Sarah Ann Elizabeth MOSS. But I can find nothing about "Coy". Perhaps that was his second name or a nickname? If anyone knows anything about this couple, I would love to hear from you! Thanks! Best regards, Janet Zengel Messer Micanopy, Florida
Thanks to all of you who sent me info about an ancestor, John W Standley, who passed away ,probably, after the 1850 census in Henry or Barbour counties, AL or across the river in Early, Randolph or any of the GA counties right across the river from Henry County. One tip reported a John Standley in the 1850 census of Randolph co, GA but the children's names were wrong, thanks anyway. If anyone runs across a John W Standley in any 1850 census with 3 minor boys named, John Oliver, Green Malone & Leonard Standley. Or knows anything about a William R Kelly who was appointed executor of the boy's inheritance on Jan. 15, 1852, by the Orphans Court of Henry co. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Joe Walker [email protected] Still -- "Digging for Standley Bones"
On Jan 15, 1852 the Orphans Court of Henry County, AL appointed William R Kelly as guardian for 3 minor Standley boys, grandchildren of James Standley who had passed away in 1846. Leonard, John Oliver & Green Malone were the children of John W. Standley & wife unknown (probably from Barbour co, AL.). All my other Standley ancestors migrated to TX around 1854 but couldn't find the 3 young men in the 1860 census. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe Walker

Have been out of circulation for a while but would like to share any information on the Standley Families who migrated to Henry County around 1820, some before. Most of them from NC but some from GA, SC & other places. My ggg-grandfather James Standley left NC ca 1815, then stopped along the way, Gwinnett County GA for the 1820 census, The 1830 census recorded 3 Standleys in Henry County, George b ca 1790 NC, David b ca 1795 NC and James b ca 1790 NC. I have documented about 90% of my Family's 25 or 30 year stay in Henry County. Be glad to share with anyone needing information.
In 1880, Joe H. Holland with wife Lenora, son William R, step son Tom Maybin, and his mother Lucinda Holland have living in their household a John and Sarah Brown. I think John and Sarah are brother and sister and are my missing Brown's in 1880. Does anyone know anything about this Holland family or their connection to John and Sarah Brown? I have run across the new FTM called Family Tree Maker 2005 (details are at www.ftm2005.com) Does anyone have this version yet? It looks like they have done a lot of work redesigning this. Its fairly cheap, $30 for a full ver and $20 for the upgrade from 11. I have ver 9 so i would have to buy the full version. A re there any other programs out there that are as good or better than FTM? And is the new Ver worth the purchase price? In Vol 2 of the ORATOR, newsletter of the Henry County Historical Group I noticed a picture of the Greene Davirson home. One of my Wiggins family members, Winnefred Haney Wiggins, married Greene Davirson. I would very much like to hear from any one researching this family. I would be willing to trade information. Any help appreciated. Margie Wiggins Lawrence [email protected]
