I've not found a connection either. Believe there is a connection to William Wright, Sr. His wife was Emma or Emily and my gggrandfather named a child Emily. The following are some Wrights who purchased items from my gggrandfather's estate. Elizabeth L. A. Hester William Wright, Sr could be a son of Solomon Wright. Just a guess no facts yet. Wiley Pearce/Pierce is my ggggrandfather. Jeanette

Surnames: WRIGHT Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YS.2ADI/857.1081.1094.1 Message Board Post: Solomon Wright (b. 1757) was in Darlington District SC when he fought in the Revolution. He left SC about 1815 and was in Wilkinson Co, GA in 1820 and in Jones Co. GA in 1832 when he applied for a pension. He later moved to Henry Co, AL where he died in 1838. His known children moved to GA (several counties) and most went on to Henry Co. AL. Some may have remained in SC. Several William Wrights are found in neighborhoods with Solomon & family but have not be able to prove a connection.
in 1860-1863 if you had a clopton address was that all of dale and henry co, or just one county. idella
Robert J. Williams (11-12-1826 to 3-17-1901) was my g-g-g grandfather. He is buried in Wicksburg, but I know nothing of his parents or siblings. I'd sure be interested in any info you have that might tie him to the Williams family you're researching. Ron Thomas DNA testing of my uncle has connected us through a common ancestor. Please contact me Bobbye Williams Davis

I am seeking information on Howard Ray HODGES & Lizzie HARPER OATES. Lizzie is a cousin of my grandfather the late Neil OATES. Did they have more children than Lillie HARPER HODGES. Is Mrs. Fields still living, and if so what is her address. Does she have an email address. Can anyone tell me how Selma OATES is doing. I believe she is in Azalea Court Assisted Living Center 508 East Church Street. My grandmother was a resident there for 7 years, up until she died in 2004. She was Mabel Gay HARDWICK. Le
My grandfather's sister, Eula (or Ula) Hughes married John Tucker 3 Oct 1886. They had a number of children: Ashley K, William L., Joseph J., Dawson R., Rosa M., and Alvin John. The family appears in the 1900 Alabama Census for Henry County. By 1910, that part of the county had become Houston Co., and the youngest of the four children were living with their grandfather and grandmother, William N. and Melissa Sellers Hughes. I surmise that at least the mother had died, but haven't found any graves so far. Is anyone related to this family who might know what happened to Eula and John? Linda Dumas
My g-gf, Augustus Harp, was shown on the 1900 census in Henry Co, AL as in PRECINCT 14, GRANGER. Does anyone know where that area might have been ? He was shown on the 1910 census in Houston Co, AL as in PRECINCT 12. Does anyone know where that area might have been ? Thanks for your help. Ray Strobo Researching Paulk, Granger, Harp, Moody
Hope some of this helps, Martha ------------------------------------------------------------- This site is a good one for the GOODMAN name & its country(ies) of origin: http://www.bcpl.net/~dmg/meaning.htm The Meaning of the name GOODMAN The surname GOODMAN appears to be patronymical and occupational in origin. Indications are that it can be associated with the English and Scots, meaning, "descendant of GODMANN (good man); the husband or head of the house; a landowner, however large his estate, who held his land not directly from the crown but from a feudal vassal of the King." The GOODMAN surname was also said to be used as a title, i.e., Sir, Esquire, etc., meaning "holder of land". In Germany, Goodman is "Guttmann" or literally, "good man." This name was applied to the mercantile class as "good man" was the equivalent of "gentleman." In Spain, "Guzman" was used by the Basque tribe meaning (good-man). The Basque were from the Iberian Peninsula at the foremost western boundary of Europe. These are but a few meanings of our proud name, and I'm sure there are more. If you come across others, please email me so that I may share them with others. Dave Goodman ======================================================= How to Trace the Origin of Your Surname Surnames, for the most part, drew their meanings from the lives of men in the Middle Ages, and their origins can be divided into four main categories: Patronymic Surnames Patronymics, last names derived from a father's name, were widely used in forming surnames, especially in the Scandinavian countries. Occasionally, the name of the mother contributed the surname, referred to as a matronymic surname. Such names were formed by adding a prefix or suffix denoting either "son of" or "daughter of." English and Scandinavian names ending in "son" are patronymic surnames, as are many names prefixed with the Gaelic "Mac," the Norman "Fitz," the Irish "O," and the Welsh "ap." Examples: The son of John (JOHNSON), son of Donald (MACDONALD), son of Patrick (FITZPATRICK), son of Brien (O'BRIEN), son of Howell (ap HOWELL). You can look on the site that provided this info. and it also deals with specific names of origin by country. http://genealogy.about.com/od/surnames/a/surname_meaning.htm -----Original Message----- From: Ceya [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, March 12, 2005 1:05 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: old country I guess it would depend on what nationality they were.
