You are, indeed, "a gentlemen and a sholar." And, you generously share the attributes of both. Thanks. I like it when things work for the good of all involved. I trust I can continue to tell my “tales of Henry County history” as a supplement to add “flesh” to the “bones” of a family tree. I do agree with Winnette in this case, Don, because as an educator I feel reprimand is best done in private. What you wrote was well written, very factual, and extremely helpful. It could have been presented without the reproach of another. And as you said, "whatever", we all have our own opinions.

I did not intend it to be but merely ment to point out that the data base is more than what I took your statement in your message to be. I also am an older person but I have been researching for many years, especially Henry County as that is where my mother's ancestors were after South Carolina. Perhaps your local Mormon Family History Center can order you the microfilm of the Henry Co. marriages so you can see for yourself those you are interested in. Again sorry if I stepped on your toes.
Pat, Please share the dates of birth and death for Wade and his family. Not having a good source of research data has really made it difficult for me to determine anything as correct. Then I have been given so much info that is not correct. However, I believe you have been researching Armstrong's longer than anyone I know. Thanks, Winnette

However, I did not need your public reprimand. I am am and older person and have had the ancestry.com subscription for about 4 days. It took me over a week to actually have access once I receive notice that it was activated. Say what you want to, you will anyway, but, Liahona Research and Hunting For Bears are guilty of posting the same marriage with different dates. I am not quite as ignorant as you imply. I will attempt to spend some time this weekend to see if I can figure out how to get to the court records. Following instructions has done me no good so far. But, please try to be more considerate of me in the future. At least I was trying to help, you cannot say the same for everyone. Winnette

I am in search of Mary ARMSTRONG Birth-date: 15 May 1856 Birthplace: unknown Death date: 02 August 1922 Place of death: Lafayette County, Florida Buried at Midway Baptist Church Cemetery, Lafayette County, Florida Mary ARMSTRONG appears first on a census in Lafayette County Fl in 1860. She was but a child, listed as age 9, and was a servant. She later married James Walker, and was my g-g-g-grandmother. There is nothing known about her birthplace, although Ga, Al, and Fl are all given. Later census suggests she may have been born in 1850.... At any rate, what caught my eye was that her first child was named William Clayton ARMSTRONG/Walker. He was born prior to the marriage, but always used the Walker name, as James Walker was his father. There are numerous connections from Henry County to this family in surnames...Trawick, Brown, Best, Hewitt....Like I said, it is indeed a long shot, but wondered if there were any more Mary Armstrongs in this line. Thank you, even if it is not a definite connection. I appreciate you reading this. Carol Daughtery LadyDaughtery@gmail.com

Been reading with interest the posts on the ARMSTRONGS & KIRKLANDS of Henry Co., AL. I descend from the elder Moses and Elizabeth Armstrong through their son Wade who married Cynthia KIRKLAND. I have been able to link children Winifred, Hiram, Sarah, Wade and Martin Armstrong to Moses & Elizabeth. Other possible children may be Matthew and Travis. Travis disappears after he married Mary Ann TAYLOR in 1833 in Henry Co. SO.....she became Mary Ann ARMSTRONG after her marriage to Travis. Did Travis die? Have never been able to find anything in the Henry County records about Travis Armstrong. My best two guesses....he died....or they moved out of the area. I am still looking to put the Armstrongs of Henry County with their respective families. Been at it a while and haven't done it yet! William and Mary Ann King Armstrong , I believe, are a separate family and not related to Moses & Elizabeth. I find Moses in the Edgefield Co. records as early as 1795. He bought property in 1804 & 1814...then in 1820 and 1822 he sold property. Moses and family was in Henry County, AL by 1824. Winifred (Armstrong) and Benjamin Kirkland probably brought grown children with them in the move to Alabama. Hiram married Margaret Helton after moving to Henry County. Wade married Cynthia Kirkland in Henry County and Martin married a sister of Cynthia's, Sarah, probably in Henry County. Have not found a marriage record for them. Will be glad to answer any queries on the Armstrongs and Kirklands. Patricia Long Dothan, AL jalpal@snowhill.com or jalpal@graceba.net

My gr gr grandmother, Nancy Kirkland Scott, was a daughter of the senior Caleb Kirkland and was just younger than the younger Caleb. She was born Jan 1805 and married John Scott in 1822. They had a son Wm S. Scott who married a Nancy Kirkland in Henry Co. also, His parents and he left Henry county in early 1846 and his wife Nancy went to live with my Nancy;s brother, Sanders Kirkland. She and Wm S. Scott had a son named Wm T. Scott. Ten years after Wm S. left, she married Randolph Blackshear and had 4 children with him. When John and Nancy Scott left Henry County, their sons-in-law, W.E Whiddon and David Sholar and their families also came to Shelby/Panola county Texas. Much later, in 1886, Wm T. Scott, his wife Mary Windsor Scott and 9 children and two of his Blackshear half brothers came to Shelby county Texas also. In mRs Marvin Scott's history book she got the two Nancy Kirklands confused somewhat, I have more on my web site at www.lanniewalker.com John Scott was a partner in some kind of business with a Kelley in Henry county. shannona@triad.rr.com wrote: >Hhhmmm!
