Linda & all, The list has been quite for a good while. My Robinsons & Herndons were in Greene County (mostly near Erie) in the early to mid 1800s. George Robinson married Mary Herndon in Spotsylvania Co., VA and moved to Greene County. Other Spotsylvania families that moved about the same time were the Hord, Cox, Herndon, and several others. Most of these were from the Fredericksburg area of VA. George & Mary's son, Edwin Robinson moved to Smith Co., MS about 1859. A few years ago I was in contact with a Herndon cousin who still lived in Erie. With her help I went through the records in the County Courthouse. There was no interest from the staff and little oversight. I could have torn pages out and carried them out for all they seemed to care. They were helpful with copying (or at least collecting my fees). With Mrs. Olive at my side I was able to go where ever I wanted. Her knowing where to go was the greatest help! The town square had the original courthouse, jail, library, and some other building still standing. It looked just about like it did in the 1800s I am sure! There are many beautiful old homes in and near Erie but I don't remember seeing any motels or at least any I would want to stay at. I think a couple of old homes are also a Bed-n-Breakfast if you are interested. It was/is a very poor area. There were a few businesses around the town square that were interesting and we ate at an excellent "home cooking" type local restaurant. I am also interested in any Stuart/Stewart or Jones family in the early/mid 1800s in Greene County. I have not established a connection but my Neshoba County, MS Stuart/Jones family seem to have possibly at least passed through Greene County.
