    3. As you may have noticed, I am new to the Greene GenWeb. I am not sure how others sites do the transcribing, but will state that I am highly appreciative of the number of new submissions the Greene site has received from a variety of interested contributors. The Civil War area is rapidly growing, thanks to the contributions from Scott Owens, a Greene County expert in the Civil War. We have received a number of cemetery transcriptions, with the lofty goal of having ALL Greene cemeteries transcribed and available online, preferably with photos on the Greene County "sister site" Magnolia and Peaches. The latest transcription came from Jim Taylor and contains over 400 names from the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery: http://magnolia.cyriv.com/DynamicTree/Cemetery/Search/CmDtl.asp?CID=20 Click on the All Burials link on the left to see the list of names. You can add notes for burials to each burial to provide background on the person. Jim also provided notes for every burial in the Pleasant Hill Cumberland Church Cemetery in a spreadsheet of which about 3/4 have been loaded so far. I inherited the message board with the site and may discontinue it at the end of the calendar year, since it really is redundant to this board. The Greene message board, or "queries" goes back to 1999 and prior. I will keep the history since the queries do continue to provide information when you search. I have been keeping a running list of new items each month and would be happy to post the list once a month or so here -----Original Message----- From: Becky P. [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, July 30, 2005 8:02 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [ALGREENE] List Activity Morning All! There hasn't been much activity of late and wondered how all is doing. There is currently 146 members, a substantial number to be sure. Speaking a new activity, Kim, (who BTW is the CC for Greene County) is currently a member of this list and while checking her webpage, came across several new files transcribed by several volunteers. She also has added her own query message board and has archived queries from this list from 2004. Kim; why haven't you mentioned the new files you have acquired by others to your site to the list? As a subscriber to this list and as a service to others here, it would be of interest to them to know of what is happening (genealogically speaking of course.) Also, is this a new trend? Having others do the transcribing of data to your webpage? It appears that no host for websites sponsored by USGW do any volunteering of transcribing data for the researcher, but have the researcher do the transcribing for them. Tell me, just what does a county co-ordinator do? I am sure other subscribers to this list would like to know also. I am not picking on you Kim, I am only trying to get a conversation going. Others may join in also. Thanks! 3. Kim; I'm sure that everyone here would be interested in the new updates you have for the webpage, and that folks here will help you as much as they can with transcribing and all. When you say copyrites, I would think anything over 75 years (dated) would be elegible for transcribing. Don't quote me though (VBG) You'al have a good weekend! 3. Hello I am in the process of transcribing a local area newspaper from ~1870 to 1940s, and also working on Tennessee Civil War newspapers and I have been told that as long as there is no biline, and ( in the case of say census or burials?) the info being transcribed is known facts, it is supposed to be legal. There is this bit of info on the Rockcastle Co, KY site which maybe helpful as well. http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyrockca/tools/copyright.htm Lisa Coultrup Rockcastle Co KY ----- Original Message ----- From: "Becky P." <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 31, 2005 1:04 AM Subject: RE: [ALGREENE] List Activity > Kim; > > I'm sure that everyone here would be interested in the new updates you have for the webpage, and that folks here will help you as much as they can with transcribing and all. > > When you say copyrites, I would think anything over 75 years (dated) would be elegible for transcribing.
