    3. Ellen: We moved from Green County back into Tuscaloosa in 2000. It was my idea and I really hated to make the move but it has proven that it was for the best. Harold had his 4th Open Heart surgery this past March 24. He surprised everyone with how well he did and all was going well until his back started to bother him. He has trouble sleeping and also hurts during the day. He may get a good rest every 3rd or 4th night. I have not done much with family history but guess I am saving it for rainy and cold days. The reason I responded today is because the Evans name caught my eye and I had e-mailed back and forth with the man who submitted the article that I referred to. Good to hear from you. As to locating graves, some have accused some folks in the Knowville area of destroying some of the old graves which does not surprise me at all. Also the timber cutters get a lot of blame. Wanted to also let you know that my husband Dennis Mayo passed away on Jan 8, 2010 after his long battle with COPD. I keep searching the cemetery listings in hopes of finding Mr./Mrs. Mayo but have not found anything. 3. Walter, Try www.findagrave.com Use the search option for finding a cemetery (rather than an individual). Then leave the cemetery name blank, and just enter the state and county. That will return all the Greene Co. cemeteries they have in their database. If your ancestor died in the War Between the States, you might try his service record for death info. It doesn't usually list the parents or much other info, though. 2. I talked to ADPH and they said their death records go back to 1908. So I called Greene County and was told they don't have records there. She said if they get a request for a record they fax it to Montgomery. Where do I get death records for 03 Nov 1864. Just in case some kind soul reads this that can research it, it is for Stephen Decator Owens b abt 1817 married Fannie H Owens in 1849 and he died 03 Nov 1864. 3. Hello cousin! Debbie, this file contains the will of Joseph J. Freeman whose wife was Juan A. B. Avery. They married 8 Jan 1855. Children are named in the will: Lucy, P. Helen, and Jessie. Joseph died 17 Dec 1859. City directory 1856-7 gives Joseph J.'s occupation as teacher in Greensboro. Joseph J. Freeman was the son of Robert Freeman and Phebe Harris. 3. I have quite an extensive probate file on Robert Freeman who died in Greene Co., AL in 1844. Also have widow Phoebe's probate file. There is also information from an estate file of a Samuel Freeman. Robert was the son of Joseph Freeman who died in Wake Co., NC in 1828. Joseph is my ancestor through the son Wilie or Wiley (who is mentioned in the probate papers). Robert as son of Joseph is confirmed by copies of land distribution documents of Joseph's estate which are in Robert's probate file, along with other documents. I do not know who this Samuel Freeman is...would like to know if he is a relative and how. Bottom line... I am cleaning files. I do not need this file on Robert Freeman and would be happy to mail it to the first person who sends confirmation of this as their family line. I do ask for postage as this is quite a large file. (Don't have any idea yet about cost of mailing.) Wanda Ridge

    1. [ALGREENE] 2010 Stuart Reunion
    2. George Stuart
    3. The Annual Stuart Reunion will be June 13, 2010 at Old Pearl River Baptist Church in NW Neshoba County, Mississippi. This is a reunion for the descendants of William Davis Stuart and Hannah Jones Stuart. Friends and neighbors are welcome too. Bring a favorite dish and join us for an old timey "dinner on the grounds". The fellowship hall will be open for us starting about 10:00 AM Sunday. You are invited to attend the Church service (11 - 12) on the same grounds that your ancestors worshiped. We will have the meal immediately following the morning worship service. Then we have the afternoon to visit. We will update everyone on our DNA research results. Some of us have submitted DNA to 23andMe in addition to the FTDNA Surname Project. The Y-DNA results connect us to the James Stewart and Ann Lafferty family who settled in old Augusta Co., VA in the mid 1700s. One of our 23andMe participants matches with a lady in Scotland who has Stewart and Lafferty in her ancestry. The McCown side also matches (in their DNA study) with Francis McCown and Margaret Patterson of old Augusta. William Davis Stuart was born 1823 in Alabama according to census records. He first appears by name on the 1850 Winston County, Mississippi census. After that he was always in Neshoba County. His wife Hannah Jones was also born in Alabama in 1833. Her Grandfather John Stainton named her parents (Dudley Jones and Hannah Stainton) in his will filed in Monroe County, Alabama in 1852. The 1850 census listed their first born child as 6 months old and born in Alabama so we assume they had just moved to Winston Co., MS in time for the census. Their children were: Mary Lodocia Ann "Polly" Stuart (Jan 1850, AL/1902, MS) who married John Thomas "Jack" Talbert (some of their descendants changed the spelling to Tolbert); Hannah Elizabeth Stuart (1852, MS/bef. 1933) married William A. "Bill" Rowe; Josephine "Jodie" Stuart (1853, MS/1911, MS) married John King Talley; William M. "Bud" Stuart (1856, MS/1931, MS) married Texanna Marshall; Sarah Georgina Stuart (1857, MS/1894, TX) married William Arthur Talbert (brother to John Thomas Talbert); George W. Stuart (1859, MS/1944, MS) never married; Missouri Stuart (about 1860, MS/about 1878, MS) never married; John Leroy Stuart (1861, MS/1935, MS) married Martha Elizabeth Tindol; James Monroe Stuart (1863, MS/1947, TX) married Nancy Emma Musgrove; twin Dr. Henry Newton Stuart (1867, MS/1929, MS) married Cora Mae McKay; twin Dr. Jasper Marion Stuart (1867, MS/1917, AR) married Alice Marie Hyde; Elizabeth Lenora Stuart (Feb. 1870, MS/about 1888); Thomas Franklin Stuart (1875, MS/1933, MS) married Anna Ethel Stokes. Many of these descendants moved into Winston, Attala, Leake, Lauderdale and Newton Counties by the late 1800s/early 1900s. Besides the surnames mentioned many married into other area families like: Agent, Alford, Atkins, Beall, Breazeale, Byars, Coghlan, Darby, Dunn, Duett, Eubanks, Ferguson, Gamblin, Goodin, Habour, Hill, Hisaw, Lampkin, Melton, McCown, Murphy, Nowell, Sharpe, Perry, Ryals, Warren, and many others.
