Hello, Can anyone tell me if it is possible to access land records from Boligee from 1880? Jordan Solomon owned property in 1880 but disappeared before 1900. I see that a McAlpine family was a neighbor. It also appears that Solomon may have bought the property from Julia McClendon or McClennon..(McClennen) widow after 1870. I would like to find the transfer of deeds in hope of finding something else about this family. One other thing... It appears that this Solomon family had a relationship with Davis, Lee and Jackson families in the area. Thanks, Bev W
I have been searching for my husband's GGGrandfather who was born in Alabama and lived in the Boligee area. I know that my husband's GGGrandmother married Joseph T. Brown Jr. 27 Jun 1866 in Greene, Alabama, USA because I have a copy of their Marriage License. She was living with two children in Greene Co in the 1870 census but there was no record of her husband. She moved to Texas shortly after with the young son and remarried. I have found a Joshua T. Brown Jr. and Sr. and a map showing their land. There are no other Jos. T. Browns that fit. So I would like to find out more about Joshua T. Brown Sr. who was born in Georgia. I am hoping someone has information on this family while in Greene County. Thanks in advance for any help. I have just started to look at the Familysearch records. I was thrilled to finally find a death cert for my husband's great grandmother who listed her father as Jordon Solomon, of Boligee, Greene Co. Ala. I have some information from Ancestry so hopefully, we will find a bit more with Familysearch. Thanks so much!! Thanks so much! My husband's father was actually from Tuscaloosa but came north for work when he was in his late 30s. He never returned to Alabama. We were very fortunate to find information from several people who are (and were) on the Tuscaloosa list, as my father in law rarely talked about his upbringing with his children. I am thrilled to find even more about the family as we chip away at some of the mysteries. It appears that members from this part of the family not only lived from time to time in Tuscaloosa, but also ended up Bibb Co. Hi Jim - and Happy Thanksgiving! While the Fosters didn't come over on the Mayflower, a good many of them came well before the Revolution. Have you checked any of the Foster websites on line? Start with Google and type in "Richard Forestarius" - he's the first Foster in England, coming over with William the Conqueror. The name spelling was "Forster" for a long time, then shortened to "Foster" by a much later Foster when he came to America. Some of the later descendants moved to Tennessee, and some went south to Alabama, South Carolina, etc. My branch moved to Tennessee, then to Texas where I was born. I can give you some websites to look at to try to connect your line if you don't have luck yourself on-line. As to your inquiry about Littleton Johnson Roberts, whereabouts in Alabama was he? A good many settlers moved to Sumter County after the Choctaw treaty of 1837, which opened up lands to the west of Greene County. The southern half of Sumter County was split off to become the northern half of Choctaw County in the 1840s, so you need to check both county records. "Littleton" sounds like a surname, which was often a mother's maiden name given to a boy or a girl, an old Southern custom. Please keep in touch. We might find out our Fosters are related. I have picture of an Evans Family in Hale County, AL which was founded by Abner Evans circa 1830. My notes say that the home of Abner and Martha Coleman Evans was located adjacent to the cemetery. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Tue, Nov 9, 2010 2:00 am Subject: ALGREENE Digest, Vol 5, Issue 7 This list is adoptable.
