With the assistance of Kay Anderson of Monroeville, AL, we now have the October Feature of the Month online, W. T. Smith Lbr. Co. Kay has contributed and written this feature article. Linda Bratcher McQuire has also contributed more photos for the page on Bolling, Alabama . The page also has a new look. A special thanks to these to ladies for their interest in helping the Butler County ALGenWeb site become better. I am still searching for information and photos on the various communities of Butler County. If you have photos and would like to contribute information on them, please contact me. All, it has been brought to my attention that two of the Butler Links: 1> Butler County History, 2> Butler County Cemeteries and 3> Butler County Map are broken links. I have checked them and cannot find this information on the web so they have been deleted. I will attempt to relocate them and place them back on the page. If you have the correct URL for these sites, I would appreciate receiving them. I would love to hear you comments on the Butler County page. Our researchers list is still growing and I am receiving more and more requests for information on "our" county. As a last note, I would like to invite you to read a short story I wrote entitled The Open Gate©. It is the story of a Butler County 20th century businessman who finds himself fighting the Battle of Vicksburg in 1863. The story tells of his trials in attempting to return his present day home in Butler County. The man's name is Martin Jackson, a southern fighting with the 77th Ilinois Infantry. A fictional story, I have learned that there was a southerner named Martin Jackson who actually fought with the 77th. There was a real M. Jackson from Butler County who fought in the Civil War. The end of the story has an ununusal twist to it... a genealogical ending.
