Welcome back Leigh! I'm so sorry to hear about your mother! I have a question I hope someone can answer for me. I am the Temp Coordinator for Crenshaw County. A gentleman has contacted me because he wants to take over as coordinator. He has filled out the online form and I have written to you Leigh about this (I know you have tons of stuff to catch up on). He's going to need my help to get started and I would like to do that. Here's the problem. I'm leaving town on the 13th for three weeks. I would like to have him up and running before then. Can I go ahead and do this or do I need to wait for the OK? Any help would be appreciated. We are both anxious to get the transition over with. One more for the road! Thanks to David Morgan for allowing me to upload the following from the OKGENWEB Archives we have the following: Thanks to Marti Graham, some very brief biographies on many Civil War officers are now in the OK archives. Hello all, Just a quick update from your State Coordinator. I've been doing quite a bit of travelling in the last month. My mother died on 29 June and I travelled to Alabama for her funeral. During her final illness, I had not been able to keep my usual work travel schedule, so the last few weeks have been busy trying to catch up with all this postponed business travel. Although I travel with a laptop and am able to keep up with the most essential e-mail, I generally don't do any website maintenance from the laptop so that I don't wind up with files scattered around. I hope you've been seeing the information on the USGenWeb elections. This weekend, I'm busy making a number of updates to the ALGenWeb site. Tuscaloosa County pages have moved to http://www.rootsweb.com/~altuscal/ Lauderdale County link corrected to http://www.rootsweb.com/~allauder/index.htm The ALGenWeb home page links to Carol Middleton's Alabama Marriage Indexes have been changed to: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cmddlton/albrd1.html and http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cmddlton/algrm1.html Mailing list page has been updated to include all the new county mailing lists on RootsWeb. If any county coordinators are using mailing lists on other servers, please send me information and I'll include them on the page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~algenweb/mailing.html More to come. Regards, Leigh

Hi, fellow USGenWeb project members, On September 1st I will taking office as CC Representative for the Southeast/Mid-Atlantic region, joining Jim Powell, who continues in the second year of his term. I plan, at least initially, to use the list USGENWEB-SE-L as my main way to consult the CC's of this region as to your opinions, with copies to USGENWEB-DISCUSS-L (other forums may evolve.) For example, I will shortly be opening discussion on possible amendments to the By-Laws - first and foremost, making them easier to amend! If you are interested in actively participating in the business of running the USGENWEB project, please join one or both of these two lists. [ATTN STATE COORDINATORS: If you are the SC for a state in the SE/M-A region other than Kentucky, could you please forward this message to your state list? Many project volunteers may not be on the USGENWEB-SE-L list, and I would like at least the chance to say hello to everyone in the region. Thanks.] If you have any concerns that you would like to have brought before the advisory board, you can either send me email or post a message to the USGENWEB-SE-L list. I'm looking forward to working with you all in the two years ahead. ************************************** PLEASE VOTE IN THE RUNOFF ELECTION !!! ************************************** Teri Pettit || home: 1048 Almanor Ave. Adobe Systems Inc. || Menlo Park, CA 94025 San Jose, CA 95110-2704 || (650) 326-2363 (408) 536-3086 || email: pettit@adobe.com CC Representative-Elect for Southeast/MidAtlantic region: http://www.best.com/~tpettit/usgenweb/board99.html KYGenWeb County Coordinator for Rowan Co. I have noticed that several states and counties have started pages that deal with unidentified photos and with memorabilia that has been located and they cannot find the rightful heirs. I have started a page for links to such sites for all counties and states that have these pages. I would like for anyone that has a site for these things to please contact me so that I may add a link to YOUR site, whether it be State or County level! If you do not have such a site, you might want to think about creating one. I have already had many submissions to my own, and requests for additional ones in other states, but as I am not part of the states in question, I would not want to be the one to have such sites for those states. For examples of the unidentified photo pages see: http://www2.crosswinds.net/~sdcounk/mystery.htm For the memorabilia see: http://www.rootsweb.com/~cogenweb/goldmine/goldmin.htm To see the links pages : Mystery Gallery Project (unidentified photos) http://www.rootsweb.com/~cogenweb/mystery/index.htm The Gold Mine Project: (memorabilia) http://www.rootsweb.com/~cogenweb/goldmine/index.htm I would also appreciate a link to these two projects pages. Thank you, Lynn cestus3@inetnebr.com
Hi Fellow Volunteers... Our election is almost over. Before anyone has time to start asking "where are the results" we would like to tell you when they will be released. Barbour County has been updated and I invite everyone to drop in and see the new look of the page. Margie
While this topic may not be appropriate for this mailing list, I am a little concerned for all of the Butler County researchers as well as all other genealogists. Today I received an email reference some errors in one of my family lines that I have on my personal web site. I then received another email with the same information except that a file had been attached. I immediately recognized this file (happy99.exe) as one that had been placed on the virus list. As a result I did not download it. Instead I forwarded it to another address which I occasionally used which allows me to run a scan for viruses before downloading the file. My hutch was correct in that it was a virus. Happy99 is an incurable virus that will total wipe out your computer once downloaded. Had I not scanned the file for viruses my computer would have been destroyed. I immediately contacted the person who sent me the family information to learn that they did not attach an files. According to the sender, they attempted to send me an email for the address on the Butler County web page. They said another name appeared and it apparently went to that person who relayed it somehow to me, along with the file containing the virus. I have verified the email address link on the Butler County page and it is correct. Please note: If you should happen to use this link and any other name or address appears, PLEASE copy it down and report it to me or to GeoCities so that together we may be able to put a stop to whoever is sending this virus. Researching our family lines is difficult enough without someone attempting to send us viruses under the pretense of it being genealogy material. If you have doubts about any files that are forwarded to you, please scan them before downloading them. Thanks, and happy hunting.
