In a message dated 99-08-23 15:38:01 EDT, you write: I don't know if this person spammed your mail lists, but he hit several of mine. I don't feel like linking to his page, after that. What you decide is up to you. David >> I responded that I would not be linking that we are a group of volunteer striving to have free internet access online. I also advised that spamming was not allowed. No links for me. If anyone wants to pay for their info then send our volunteers something for their time, parking, copies. Margie
Yep -- it appears that he subscribed to and then spammed every Alabama list. I'm subscribed to about 1/2 of the county lists, and it appears to have been posted to every list that I'm on. I sent a terse note to each list (CC this guy) that I manage saying that it is not open for commercial postings; also asking that this not be discussed on the list itself. I suggest that this guy be told he can BUY his advertising. RW will accept advertising in the RWR or as part of the commercial taglines. Hi Fellow Volunteers... We really appreciate your patience and persistence in voting. I thought about making one of my little speeches about working together, but all of you are already planning to do just that and make our Project the best that it can be, right? Short and sweet, it was close, but we have a winner. The Results of the USGenWeb Run Off Election 1999 Tim Stowell 335 Fred Smoot 323 We would appreciate any constructive criticism to pass on to the next Election committee. elections@usgenweb.org Thanks for the memories, The Election Committee
Hi All! Two more cemeteries for Clarke Co. with a great many thanks to Richard White, cc for Clarke Co <white@hiwaay.net>. Also, I am working on bringing the ALGENWEB Archives into the guidelines of the USGENWEB Archives. Some of our directories are not posted as they should be. Although none of the URL's for the TOC (table of contents) pages will be affected, some of the URL's to the text files (records posted) will be. So if you have links going directly to the text files (records) then you may want to check them and make sure they still work when I post what counties that I have worked on. The main text files that will be affected are those under probate, topicals, political and marriage directories. I started this project yesterday and the following counties have had changes Autauga through Choctaw. I apologize for any inconvenieces, but this is something that has been needed to be done for sometime now and since I do have some help now, it seems like I may be able to find the time to get this done. Thank you to all!!!! Lygia Dawkins Cutts Cuttstree@Net1inc.net 881 Weaver Road Brewton, AL 36426

Thank you, Leigh, and everyone else who's given so much time to ALGenWeb. I hate to leave, but feel that my counties are in good hands now with Mildred and Carolyn. I'm still making graphics for USGenWeb and for personal sites if anyone wants to use them on their sites. All I ask in return in a link back to my site. Hello all, I'm still catching up! I'd like to announce two new county coordinators. Carolyn Golowka will be taking over in Baldwin County from Barbara Prestridge. Carolyn is already doing an admirable job with Lowndes County. With this move, Barbara will be leaving us as County Coordinator. I'd like to thank her for the years of volunteering she has given to ALGenWeb and for making the transfer of her county sites painless for the new coordinators. Les Taylor is a new volunteer in Alabama. He'll be coordinating Crenshaw County, taking over from Kristy Williams. Kristy will continue as coordinator for Covington County. So, once again, all the counties have coordinators. Thanks to all for your contributions to ALGenWeb and the USGenWeb Project. Regards, Leigh
Once again the ALGenWeb Butler County Page has been updated. This month's featured is a photo with names of the students and faculty from Starlington School, Class of 1935-36. There are several names missing. If you know who the students are, please send the correct names so we can fill in the missing information. In addition to this month's feature, several other photos with names have been added. These include: Greenville Champion Football Team 1924 , Greenville's first undefeated team; Georgiana High School Class of 1941 and Georgiana High School Class of 1942 , reunion photos taken in 1995, and last months feature, Greenville High School, Class of 1952 . I would like to do a page on the town of McKenzie. If you have old photos of businesses, churches or schools, or new ones, that you are willing to share, please send them to me.
