I don't have access to the AOL member directory, but it might be worthwhile to check and see if she's still listed as an AOL member. Unfortunately, this does happen from time to time -- someone cancels their Internet account and the web pages just disappear. Leigh
It seems as though more than Lisa Franklin has disappeared from AOL. Does anyone have a current email address for Andie Stringfellow of Moore, OK? Previous email was Astringf@aol.com. Mildred Stinson Brown Butler County Co-Ordinator
Lisa Franklin's Tracking Your Roots Web site seems to be down. Does anyone know if this is a temporary glitch or has the URL changed? Thanks! Sherry Ledlow
Help! Have I missed something? I have tried to go to Tracking Your Alabama Roots and get a search engine on AOL. Does anyone know what has happened to this web page? Many of us have this on our county pages and the link isn't working. Did I miss a change someone knows about? I hate broken links and would like to fix them on my counties' pages. Any word? Congratulations are in order for Steve S. Williams. He is in the process of building a new website entitled My Williams and Related Family Ancestors Page. It looks very promising and contains much information on several Butler County Families. Some of these include Williams, Cone, Burkett, Lee, Black, and Stinson. A new link to the sight has been added to the Butler County webpage. http://www.angelfire.com/wi/swilliams/ A little bit of trivia: Did you know that in 1862 when the Union Army occupied the city Of Pensacola, FL that the members of the city government took exile in Greenville, AL? It's true. That could be part of the reason so many of our related can be found in that area. Sheila: I'm the ALGenWeb State Coordinator and I maintain the "News" page linked from the ALGenWeb home page. If you have a news announcement that will be of interest to a large number of Alabama researchers, please submit it to me: al@usgenweb.org At this time, I won't be listing family reunions there, but we'd consider a separate Reunions calendar page, particularly if someone volunteers to keep it up to date! Using the RootsWeb Town Locator at http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/townco/townco.pl I found a Washington, MS in Adams County. There isn't a town of Washington in AL today. I don't know if a town was renamed from Washington to something else -- that did happen from time to time. Regards, Leigh
Hi All! Has anyone ever heard of the Town of Washington probably while AL was still MS territory? Here is an excerpt from a document received, written by Gov. David Holmes while Al was still MS territory IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, "I have caused these letters to be made patent and the seal of the Territory to be hereunto affixed. GIVEN under my hand at the Town of Washington." I have tried accessing the USGI mapping site all day and can't get through. Any ideas?? Thanks!
