    1. [ALGEN-L] County Information
    2. Leigh Compton
    3. Folks, I'd like for you to check your pages for 2 pieces of essential information. 1) Do you have the mailing address of the County Courthouse on your page? 2) Do you have the name of the library (or libraries) & mailing address on your page? Researchers in the county should be able to find this basic information on your page, even if there's no web link for the county government or the library. By the way, I have updated the "Alabama Libraries Online" page on the ALGenWeb state site. I got a lot of the links from your county pages <grin> so keep up the good work. Leigh

    1. [ALGEN-L] Changes and more changes
    2. Leigh Compton
    3. Well, folks, there are more changes to announce. I've been traveling and it has taken me a bit longer to respond to some messages, but I am still here! Kristy Williams will be taking over as CC for Montgomery County (from Pamela Long). Kristy already is serving as CC for Covington County (where your SC was raised, I might comment). Laura Cloud Schmidt < schmidtm@3-cities.com > has volunteered for Lee County. She's an experienced CC in WA, OR, and GA so let's welcome her to AL. Jack Hall is resigning as CC for Franklin County, but I think I may have a replacement lined up. More news if this develops. Marengo County has been adoptable for a long time. The page is in wonderful condition and B.J. has been terrific to keep it up to date while waiting for a new CC. Lastly, let me also add my thanks to Lygia for all that she has done for the Archives. Other State Coordinators have told me that they're jealous of us in AL because our Archives file manager has been so quick to put files into the Archives. Carolyn Golowka has volunteered to take over this job, and I know she'll bring a fresh enthusiasm to the task. Your pages are looking good! Leigh

    1. [ALGEN-L] ARCHIVES Update!
    2. Lygia Cutts
    3. Hi All! Sadly, this may very well be my last or next to the last Archives Update. Due to soooooooo much going on in my personal life at this time, I find myself unable to maintain the ALGENWEB Archives as file manager. I have really loved working with the Archives and will greatly miss working with the archives and you, the contributors and cc's. I am in hopes that someone with the same love for genealogy that I have will step in and take over the archives. If anyone one of you are interested please contact myself or Leigh Compton, our State Coordinator. I also want to take this time to thank those of you who have been of great assistance to me and I hope you will stay on and do the same for our new file manager. The good news is that I will still be around and continue to maintain Conecuh and Escambia Counties, which has been sorely neglected here of late. Thanks to all of you who have worked with me, it is you that has made our AL archives grow and become such a great place for our AL researchers to delve into their past and find their roots. 1. [ALGEN-L] UPDATE
    2. Thanks to all who have submitted surnames to the researchers' list. The number is still growing and the page was updated again tonight with new names. There appears to be a few which seem to invalid email addresses. If your is incorrect please let me know so I can correct it. Also, 4 new areas of information data links have been added. Now you can submit information on Bible Records, Deeds, Pensions and Wills. The Butler County Heritage Book is in full swing. Individuals having ancestorial ties to Butler County are qualified for a free printed article plus a picture. Personal articles, early church histories, etc. everything interesting about early Butler County. For information about "how to submit your article" contact George B. Lewis (georgeb@alaweb.com) with your mailing address and just mention "Brochure" and you will get the brochure in the mail. Disregard the deadline Oct. 31, The Book Committee is set to extend it at the next meeting, October 15. Their P. O. Box is 971, Greenville, 36037. A new story referencing the school teachers at Brushey Creek will be added to the Brushey Creek History by Mrs. Lillian Shell Morgan. If you have a relative, or know someone who did, I would be happy to place a small photograph of the teacher in the addition. If you or your parents were a student at this school, I will add a photograph of students if submitted. Kay Anderson is getting lots of compliments on her story of the W. T. Smith Lumber Co. She did an excellent job of providing her memories of the lumber mill with photos to go with it. Likewise Linda Bratcher McGuire is continuing to provide more photos of the Bolling area. New photos have been added. She has also provided a few new photos of Georgiana which will be added the that page in the next few days. If you have a topic based on the history of Butler County, and would like to share it, please send it me and we'll attempt to get it attached to the web site. Thanks to Homer Jones and Clyde Deavors for helping so much with the memorial page to the members of the 33rd Ala Vol where were killed in the Cleveland, TN. train wreck. Four of those who died now have additional information: L. M. Bush, John Hughes, Charles Scott and William M. Smyth. Thanks to Gene Cato, Sr. for submitting additional genealogy information on Lovett M. Bush. Happy Hunting! 1. [ALGEN-L] Orphan Counties
    2. Leigh Compton
    3. Hello all. I received messages from a couple of County Coordinators who will be giving up their counties. Cherokee and Montgomery are located on RootsWeb and can be adopted "in place" with the accounts transferred to the new CC. Lee and Russell had been moved to another server and the pages are simply GONE, so I've recreated skeleton pages for the counties. We wish Dee Pavey (Lee/Russell) and Pamela Long (Montgomery) the best as they leave ALGenWeb. Fortunately, Sandra Johnson (Cherokee) will be staying with the project since she will remain CC of Sumter County. And, I'm pleased to say that Cherokee will be adopted very soon as several people have already volunteered to take over from Sandra. I'm going to go back through the volunteer forms that I have received over the past several months to see if anyone had expressed interest in the other counties which are adoptable. Contact me if you know of some good volunteers. Regards, Leigh
