In addition to the State-Coord-L list, the census upload report is posted to USGenWeb-All-L@rootsweb.com and USGW-CC-L@usroots.com. Both of these lists are open to any USGW county-coordinator. Additionally, the USGenWeb-All-L mailing list archives can be searched at http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl I will continue to forward the Alabama-related uploads to the ALGEN-L mailing list so that CCs are aware of county resources that should be referenced on their county sites. Hi, Apparently, the search engine that is on the ALGenWeb Archive pages is not correct. Could someone please help me out with the url of the rootsweb search engine or what ever it is I need to make this work? This was inherited when I took over the job and I would like to fix it. Thank-you all for your help. Carolyn Golowka ALGenWeb Archives File Manager
To all: As a few of you know, my husband was laid off from work on Jan. 20th. This certainly put this household in turmoil. It is incredible how much energy and devotion it takes to find another job. This and the fact that we will probably have to move has slowed me down again. So, those files you have sent are not getting the attention I would like to give. I do not, however, want to give up on being the Alabama Archives File Manager. I am just slowed down again. Seems that the world changed the day I decided to take on this job. I don't know what happened. But, I have forbidden my husband from tinkering with the computer and creating havoc as he did in Sept. through Nov. That helps. Then our vacation and very shortly there after the job lay off. Hopefully, all will settle down within a month or so and life will smooth itself out. In the mean time, I have uploaded the following files: The estate papers of Benjamin Gaines, ca. 1858, Autauga Co., was contributed by Mark Gaines, RepGaines@aol.com. ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/al/autauga/court/bgaines.txt 7.96 Kb Zandra Pearson, zpearson@juno.com, has contributed from Blount Co., an Order Appointing Administration: WOOD, William, 1842, Orphan's book minutes 1829-52 ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/al/blount/court/wwood.txt Dennis and Saundra Cameron, dennc@juno.com, have contributed for Bullock Co. the Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/al/bullock/cemetery/bethel.txt Keep up the good work. A special thanks goes out to Clyde Deavers for his contribution of 20 names with information of soldiers who sustained injuries in the Cleveland TN train wreck. There were supposedly 67 wounded in this accident. If you have a ancestor who was injuried, or killed, in the fateful accident, I would like to have information on them so I can add a page to the web site honoring these men from the 33rd Ala Volunteer/Infantry. Two pages have been added for survivors of the wreck, John James Thames, contributed by Willie W. Butts; and William (Willie) Jason Smith, my 3rd great grandfather. Currently there are 17 soldiers listed as being killed. I have added information on 6 of these. There are 21 soldiers listed out of 67 who were injuried. With information listed on only 2, I currently need information on 18 others. [Note H. T. Clark is listed as being killed on the actual monument to these soldiers, but he died two days after the wreck from injuries. His name is also listed as one of the wounded.] All of these men were not from Butler County, so I ask that the County Coordinators from other counties pass the word on to their mailing list. Please check to see if your ancestor is listed here. Information is needed on the following: KILLED ON DATE OF WRECK: BROXTON, O. M. Co. Welcome Cindy Kurtland, Pensacola, FL; Maxine Boggan, Millbrook, AL and Leo Parker, Hampton, AR, as our newest researchers to be added to the surname list. Hi everyone. Just wanted you to know I have finally completed posting the entire book (669 pages) of Albert James Pickett's "History of Alabama" (first pub. 1851)- this book takes Alabama History up to statehood 1819. The scannning was done by William C. Bell. Please link if you wish to the intro/table of contents at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~cmamcrk4/pktfm.html -- or link to the chapters of particular interest to your counties. There is plenty of material helpful for genealogy in the book by the way. All the best, Carol Middleton Mobile Co., ALGenWeb

It has been suggested that I add information on the survivors of the train wreck at Cleveland, TN in Nov. 1862 who were members of the 33rd Alabama Volunteers. I will try this to do this if descendants of those will supply the information. I have no name listing of these soldiers so the success of this attempt will be up their respective family members. Willie Butts has suggested this and has forwarded information on his gr-gr-grandfather, John James Thames, who settled in the Elba area of Coffee County. It should be online by tomorrow. A new message board for Butler County queries has been added by GenForum, a division of Genealogy.Com. A new link has been added for the message board for Butler County. Welcome Carol Kurtland of Pensacola, FL as our newest researcher to be added to our surname list. Other newly listed researchers include Virginia Stuckey of Rosebud, TX; Gail Turner Barnfather of Homosassa, FL; Anita Fendley of Mt. Pleasant, TX and Guy Peterson of Kinston, NC. Since the last posting, historical data has been added for the community of Ridgeville. This community had a pretty lively background. I will continue to attempt adding community information for all of the communities in Butler County as time permits. If you have photos of any of these areas and would like to share them, please send them to me and I will try to get them on the appropriate community page.
