It did claim that two Rootsweb search engines on my pages are BAD. I know they work, so I am going to ignore that. Another link checker that checks a page at a time is http://tn-1.rootsweb.com/~randy/cgi-bin/vallink.cgi If your web browser can handle javascript, the link checker at http://www.linkguard.com/ will check ALL the pages on your site at one time. I may have choked it up with the following request. It hasn't finished yet. LOL David Subject: LinkGuard Login Confirmation (fwd) Dear damorgan@nyx.net, Thank you for your completing our LinkGuard Online submission form for http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/ You can view the online report any time before it is finished by visiting http://www.linkguard.net/OnlineReports/LinkGuard/Onl17E_ssi_0001.shtm, but we will also send you an email when we have finished analyzing the site.
I don't have a problem with "Tracking Your Roots" linking to my county webpages, I do have a problem with making a request to have previously donated materials removed from her site and not honoring the request. The materials are already online with search engines attached to do a decent search. You can't search "Tracking Your Roots" Yay for Rootsweb! C. A. Wood Marengo County http://www.rootsweb.com/~almareng/
Well I thought I was glad to get the new URL. UNTIL I saw the request for donations and found that every link for Morgan Co was to MY pages. For those interested Morgan Co does have a new URL. www.genealogyshoppe.com/almorgan/index.htm I wouldn't think of asking for donations when I know how little it costs for my own domain with a minimum of 150 mb and it is MY hard work and that of THOSE who have worked so hard to send me the information.. Sorry just gets under my skin. Kathy

I just sent a note to the State Coordinators mailing list and to the elections committee to inform them that the ALGenWeb volunteers were joining other states in sponsoring this amendment to the bylaws. In addition to the USGenWeb election coming up next month, you're invited to vote for an "official" ALGenWeb logo. Once selected, the official logo must appear somewhere on every county page, so think carefully about how you'd like to see the project identified. More information on voting will be provided next week. I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. One bit of news - I will be working in England for part of the summer - I fly to London on the 23rd of June. Of course, my laptop is going with me so that I'll have access to e-mail and my web sites from the office. I don't know if I'll be able to connect in the evenings from the apartment - the brochure says that it contains a "pay phone". This may slow me down just a bit, but I promise not to let anything important fester. Regards, Leigh USGenWeb State Coordinator, Alabama

It looks like 2000 is a growing year for ALGenWeb - we have several new County Coordinators, we're choosing a new project logo, and our county sites and archives have more and more information to provide to the researchers. Barbara, we're sure going to miss you. I remember 'way back in the beginning when Autauga was one of the very first county pages to come online - and you've been the county coordinator from the start. Your contributions are certainly appreciated. OK guys - don't forget the elections coming up. Each of you will be asked ot vote for one CC representative and the National Coordinator. It also appears that there will be one or more amendments to the bylaws presented. So - keep tuned in for election news. Regards, Leigh Regards, Leigh
Folks, Due to time constraints, I am no longer able to maintain the Autauga County AlGenWeb site. The new county coordinator for Autauga County is Tom Richardson (richardson-decatur-al@att.net). Thanks Tom! Regards to all, Barbara Goodson beg4135@tntech.edu
Mildred, Thanks for the interesting logo contest. I have two questions/comments. 1. Who's is the second logo on your page, just above yours? If it's the original, I might like it as much as the rest, and would suggest that it be included in the choices. (If I have a say, that is!) 2. How about allowing one first choice and one second choice, with each first choice getting 1 point and second choices getting 1/2 point? Add up and points, and voila. You see, I'm obligated to vote for my own (blush) but I like the others also. Leigh must be traveling. She is busy, busy! The Special Projects (archives) amendment was passed Monday night and Alabama is a co-sponsor of this amendment. The vote before the deadline was 18 votes for, 3 votes against. Several hours after the deadline, one more vote for came in, so there were 19 in favor. There is a possibility that two more states will pass this amendment before this week is over, ensuring that it will be on the ballot in July for all of the CCs to vote. Thank you for participating! CC's, Of late I've been having a problem with my CC Helper program. It's taking over an hour to produce the HTML needed to upload the newest unknown queries. Right now it;s up to about 750 queries for a one year span. I've checked every thing I know to check. Has any one got any suggestions? I also thought about switching to a Genconnect board. I need your thoughts on that too. How easy to use admin functions? I adore IRC. In my opinion, people are willing to download and install AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, etc. Why should they be reluctant to install and run IRC? The RootsWeb IRC server is easy to use and has very few users. You're not going to be asked to join a sleazy channel (which has happened to me a couple of times on the big network IRC servers). The ability to log is built into the client. I use mIRC, a shareware client. There are some IRC java sites out there that let you connect to an IRC server without installing software on your computer. I occasionally use one of those from Netscape when I'm visiting a friend's house. Just my opinion and experience. Leigh Regards, Leigh
