About a proposed new logo for the AlGenWeb...I WAS thinking about trying to design one until I just saw Mildred Stinson Brown's design. As soon as I saw this, I knew that no one could improve on this one. I think it says it all and when we vote, this will be my selection. It has the State emblems, motto and the old phrase "Heart of Dixie", which has even been used on auto tags. Good work, Mildred!! I think the one with the "heart" background is great. Wouldn't change anything on it except maybe the color of the heart (from gray to maybe red?). Also like the one with the Great Seal --EXCEPT that what is I suppose to be the Cross of St. Andrews (on the Alabama flag) ends up looking like the object has been "X-ed" out. Put a gold fringe around this to make it recognizable as the state flag and this is also very good. Robert Earl Woodham Dale County Coordinator

It's nice to see folks sending mail to the list again. I'll put up a voting form which will allow you to simply click by the particular graphic that you favor so that there's no confusion on exactly which logo you prefer. Before I do so, though, I'd like to see a bit more discussion. 1) Does ALGenWeb need a logo? Not every state has one, you know. 2) What's the purpose of a state logo? 3) If ALGenWeb adopts a logo, must it appear on every county page? 4) Should we have more than one "official" logo? I did a quick survey this morning of all the USGenWeb state sites and collected the state logo where it was clearly identified as such. I did not visit many county sites to see if the logo was on the pages. I did not read through each state's requirements to see if the logo is required. You can view them at http://www.rootsweb.com/~algenweb/logo/TheLogos.html I noticed a couple of things. * Most logos are small graphics, about the size of the USGenWeb logo * Many states offer the logo in various sizes and maybe in different color schemes - that's similar to the USGenWeb logo options One option that I thought of was to use the small state map outline that Brian Davis created 'way back at the beginning of ALGenWeb and combine it with the current "logo" text which has also been in use since the beginning of the project. I did take the liberty to change from "AlGenWeb" to "ALGenWeb" since that's the official name assigned to us. See what you think at http://www.rootsweb.com/~algenweb/logo/allogo.html -- where I've also placed all the other proposed logos. Regards, Leigh
I cast my vote for Logo design # 3. St. Clair cc Sincerely, Rev. John Evans Pace, III 1370 Taylors Mill Road Talladega, Alabama 35160
I think all the logos are great. I know there was a lot of hard work that went into the creation of each.... I would like to cast my vote for number 2. Sherry Ledlow cc for Blount and Jefferson
I will vote for # 3 Kathy Morgan Co., AL
All of them are terrific, but my favorite is #2 Laura Lee County
I vote for pic #3... Betty - ASC > > Could we vote on the new logo and get it over with? > > http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Canal/8924/contest.htm > > David
count this vote as weak but I prefer the second one on the list (in other words, I don't feel strongly about any of them)
Good idea, David. Someone please correct me, if I'm wrong, but didn't Mildred Stinson Brown create the one just below the 'original' and the 'heart' logos? I vote for the one just below the 'original' logo, or number 2 on the page. Pat Lauderdale Co. ----- Original Message ----- From: David W. My vote is also for the second one down. I count 9 logos, so maybe we could vote by number. I know that MIldred Stinson Brown designed the 2nd and 3rd logos, and maybe #5 too. And since Mildred is using the third one down on the Butler co page, I assume she likes that one. Mildred, if you are still here, speak. So I will add her vote to #3 below. My unofficial vote count is: 2. 4 votes 3. 3 votes 6. 1 vote Does anybody want to take over and do this officially? David dmorgan@efn.org David W.
